As you walk into your home, you hear something that shocks you. You hear your mother speaking Chinese! What shocks you even more is that you understand it! You mind fills with new memories. You parents started the process to escape China when your mother was pregnant with you. Since you had an older brother, who used to be your sister, a second child was illegal, so they hid her pregnancy, then you, until their escape through India. You also found that your younger brother was now also changed and was now your little sister. You father spoke good, though heavily accented English, and you mother spoke almost no English. Though you have no memory of China, you are legally still a Chinese citizen.
Only your little sister was born in this country. Nobody but you seem to realize that anything has changed. You find that you are compelled to help your mother with preparing the evening meal, and other 'female' work. You seem to have no choice. And you parents are very traditional. Perhaps the worst part is when you find that your father is still unemployed for the same reason, downsizing after the company was bought out by a Chinese company!
After cooking, serving the males first, which drove you crazy, and then cleaning things up, you do your chores of wash and cleaning, then start on your homework. There is no social life for you.
The week goes by, and everything is the same. You soon find that you not only enjoy things like math and chemistry now, but you like to get lost in it to take your mind off of the teasing you constantly get, either for being so small, or worse, for being a 'Chink'. You can't believe how cruel and bigoted some of your past friends really were. Worse yet, you begging to realize how cruel and bigoted you could get at times, even if you didn't intend to be.
As Jun Li, you appeal to the teacher who somehow caused this change. "Please! I have learned my lesson! I will not talk that way again! Please change me back!"
