It was just Dr. Provert, calling to check in like he promised. Tiffany smiled.
"Good morning Doctor. I wasn't expecting a call so soon."
"I just wanted to check in with you, see how everything was going."
"Well, last night was a little strange, but everything is fine now. Thanks for checking."
"That's great to hear Tiffany. Is Grant there?"
"No, he's at work. Do you want his cell number?"
"No, that's not necessary. Trance time."
Upon hearing that phrase, Tiffany immediately fell back into her hypnotized state.
"Now Tiffany. I want you to tell me the truth. Tell me what happened last night." Tiffany recounted her perception of events to Dr. Provert in her monotone voice. The doctor smiled. He new what Tiffany was describing was normal everyday interactions, but he was pleased the suggestion had worked so well.
"Excellent. But from now on, you will perceive your interactions with other women normally. However, whenever you think back to those experiences, you will find yourself feeling aroused by the attention you got from women. This arousal will be inexplicable to you, and will cause you shame. That shame will deepen your arousal. Even though you are shamed by your feelings, you will also enjoy them enough to want more. In fact, whenever you interact with women in the future, you will feel deep down a sense of disappointment that they are not treating you like you thought they were yesterday. Also, you will not be able to tell anyone about these feelings, but after three days you will call me in confusion over them. Now wake, and remember none of this."
Tiffany blinked her eyes. She must have zoned out.
"Sorry doctor, what did you say?"
"I said that's not necessary. I have his number, I'll give him a call. Otherwise, unless you have a problem, I'll talk to you at our session next week."
"Sounds good, thanks doc." Tiffany hung up the phone. She was glad she had found such a caring therapist. It made up for all that weird attention she was getting yesterday.
Tiffany proceeded to do some housework around the apartment, but her thoughts kept drifting back to yesterday. She didn't know what was wrong with that barista. In fact, as she thought about it, Tiffany realized she felt a sort of nervous tension about it. There was a definite flutter in her stomach as she remembered her hand coming into contact with the girl's. Tiffany shook her head. She was just over-thinking it. There's no logical reason for her to be excited by unwanted attention from another woman. She finished her chores and decided to do some shopping. She went out and bought a few new clothing items. She was relieved to find out that today, no woman was acting inappropriately toward her. 'Thank god. Although why shouldn't they? I'm attractive!' Now where did that thought come from? It didn't make any sense, she didn't want to be hit on by a girl, so why should she feel disappointed she wasn't? She couldn't explain it, but she did. It must just be her ego getting in her way. She focused on something else and went about her day.
Over the next two days, Tiffany became even more confused. No matter how she tried to stop thinking about the attention she got on that weird day, she couldn't. And the more she thought about it, the more she felt a little thrill. What was going on? This was only compounded by her confusion over her feelings at the office. She worked with a number of other women as a secretary in a law office, but instead of being grateful for something to take her mind off her strange thoughts, she kept feeling down that her co-workers weren't paying undue attention to her.
She tried talking to Grant about her feelings, but found that no matter how she tried, she couldn't express herself. She gave up in frustration, which he interpreted as her being mad at him. This drove a further wedge between them. By Friday, she had enough. During her lunch break, Tiffany called Dr. Provert and broke down crying. She told him everything, about her strange feelings from Tuesday, her disappointment, and her deteriorating relationship with Grant. Provert asked if she was alone, and finding she was, returned her to her trance state.
"Tiffany, I want you to stop being disappointed by not receiving attention from women. I want you to stop on your way home from work and buy a number of fashion and hollywood magazines. You will act normal around Grant, except you will tell him you needed a break and thought the magazines would be relaxing. Whenever you have some free time, I want you to look at as many pictures of women as you can. Also, I want you to notice women you see around you or on tv. Look at them, pay attention to their features, and what makes them attractive. You won't realize you're doing it, but the more you look at, the more you'll notice you are looking at a lot of pictures of women. This will serve to further confuse you for when we meet on Monday. Now wake up, and remember none of this."
Tiffany carries out her post-hypnotic suggestion over the weekend. Even though she acts normal, she starts noticing and looking at women. Grant doesn't like her looking at gossip rags and fashion magazines, but he's already mad at her for other things, so he doesn't push it. By Sunday, Tiffany realizes she's looked at a lot more pictures of women in the last two days than she has in the last year. She doesn't understand, but she doesn't stop either.
Monday comes around, and it's time for another appointment with the doctor.
