This choice: Twilight believes magical power is relative to weight • Go Back...Chapter #5Magical Theory by: Noname Twilight sat in her personal study room, doing as the room's title suggests, studying. Right now she was reading an interesting book over magical theory.
In the fifth year of Princess Celestia reign, Starswirl the Bearded proposed that while Unicorns were born with a certain amount of magic, this amount could increase. Starswirl believed that since magic came from the pony's lifeforce, to increase the amount of magic a Unicorn had to somehow increase their own lifeforce. While there have been differing opinions on the true definition of a lifeforce, Starswirl associated with the condition of a pony's body. If a Unicorn was sickly, then they would have less magical potential, while if a Unicorn was healthy, then they would have greater magical potential. Now, while being healthy increases magical potential, it does not significantly increases the amount of magic. To do this a pony will have to do one of two options. One way is to increase one's physical fitness is one way to increase one's lifeforce and the amount of magic a pony has. The second way is to increase one's girth. The second option was theorized by Starswirl to not only be the easiest option, but the most effective of the two options. Since fat is essentially stored energy, it is theoretical that a Unicorn's would become more powerful or be able to sustain a spell for a longer period of time. However, nopony has ever tested Starswirl's theory, and thus remains a mystery today.
Twilight tapped a hoof on her chin. Why has nopony tried this yet? After all, Starswirl was right about everything he researched.
She sat for a few more minutes, then pulled out a blank research journal, labeling it 'Testing Starswirl's Magic Increase Theory, Second Way.'
Twilight hated physical exercise, and it was theorized that it was the least beneficial. Plus, she could pack on a few pounds in a short amount of time and get results quickly. Nodding, she got up and grabbed her saddlebags.
"Spike! I'm going to Sugarcube Corner and the Market Square!"
Without waiting for a reply, Twilight left to begin her experiment.
<Two Months Later>
Twilight sat on a very comfortable cushion in Rarity's house, having been invited to come over and have tea. The past two months had been successful in Twilight's mind, though down right horrifying to her friends and mentor. Twilight had gone from a thin, sleek mare to a soft mass of flesh. Her underbelly hung down close her knees but not quite, she had acquired a second chin, her legs looked like she was wearing thick Winter gear and her sides bulged out to look like she was wearing saddlebags. Rarity was sitting across from her in her classic sofa.
"So darling, I was wondering when I might have a chance to measure you again? You have outgrown my last measurements."
Twilight pulled out her schedule, ignoring Rarity's stab at her recent acquisition.
"I'm free for tomorrow. I can't do a measurement right this moment though, got studying to do."
Twilight's stomach let out a low growl. Twilight didn't even blush.
"Oh, that's quite alright dear. I after all do need to buy a new tape measure."
Twilight smiled.
"Alright. I'll be here tomorrow afternoon."
Twilight waddled out of the shop, leaving a mildly fuming Rarity.
By the time Twilight reached the library, she was a sweating, huffing mess. She never really left the library these days, not since discovering that Sugarcube Corner delivered, along with several other fast food restaurants in Ponyville.
I need to start teleporting to places. It would give me more feedback on any increases in my magic anyways.
Twilight made her way into the kitchen. She had installed several refrigerators and the cabinets were never empty. Pulling eight pizzas from the refrigerators along with a large double chocolate cake and several bottles of apple soda. She was very hungry. Rarity had made a point not to feed Twilight any food, so she was without access to her snacks and one of her six square meals a day for more than a hour. She quickly heated the pizzas with her magic and set them down on the dinner table, lowering her wide rump onto a familiar cushion.
She ripped out a large chunk out of a helpless pizza and bit into the cheesy goodness. Her starving belly let out a growl for more, to which Twilight obliged. She dug into three of the pizzas before taking a guzzle of apple soda. Twilight settled into a routine of eating a large slice of pizza before taking a gulp of the soda. By the time she was done, her stomach was slightly protruding. Her attention was soon set on the cake.
Pulling out a knife from the drawer, she cut a large slice of cake, levitating the chunk of chocolate heaven towards her. She tore through the cake after the first slow, savoring bite. Soon, the cake was gone, leaving no traces other than the smears on Twilight's face. She topped off the cake by draining an entire soda in one go, a feat she was rather proud of. Her belly was now noticeably poking out after her meal. Twilight sat still.
"Bbbbbuuuuuurrrrrrppp!"
Sighing in relief, she heaved herself out of the comfortable cushion, grabbing several extra-large chip bags, some boxes of cupcakes and more soda before making her way to the study room. She snagged a book on Zebra Alchemy she had ordered recently and positioned herself on the second most used cushion in the library.
Despite the recent meal, Twilight still snacked. Twilight wasn't even conscious of her eating when she was studying. Her stuffed stomach continued to balloon outwards, though at a slower pace then before.
Before her experiment, Spike would have to drag her away from her books. Now, all it took was a lack of snacks or that it was the next meal time.
After her magic failed to bring the next batch of chips or cupcakes into her mouth, she discovered she was out of food. She got up and moved back to the kitchen. Spike was already there, cooking haycon, eggs, pancakes, and waffles. It was breakfast night. She was about to sit down when Spike turned to her.
"Check the journal."
Frowning, she opened the journal to find that before she ate, she had to test her magic to see if there were any changes to her level of magic. Her stomach let out a defeated rumble.
Twilight waddled down into the basement to where a block of marble stood.
Before beginning any experiment, one must have a control. Her control was trying to create a realistic golem that though it was a pony. Her first attempt left her exhausted. Her creation was pony in shape, but still looked like a marble statue, and continued to call her 'master' and called itself 'servant,' despite her trying to get the golem to stop.
She channeled magic into her horn, her mind forming the spell. She aimed at the statue... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
