In Which David Might Be a Little Nuts.

Once more, David stepped back from his friends, and with a showman's flair, raised his arms up high and declared in a clear, almost rhythmic voice "I wish that me and my friends Paul and Sam were the biggest people on Earth!"

At this point, all three of them were ready for the sudden trill that coursed up their spines as they felt their bodies slowly expand. Their clothes were now starting to tear at the edges, bits and pieces of fabric falling away in strands of thread. Sam's already extremely short shorts were now practically constricting his thighs, the pants gradually unspooling themselves in chunks of uneven fabric. Paul's shirt was the first to go, unceremoniously flopping to the ground in tatters once his neck had torn through the collar.

At first, all three of them could only look to each other in pure awe, ecstasy infusing the atmosphere as their already diminished world grew even smaller (in that moment, David couldn't help but realize how strange "growing smaller" sounded when he really thought about it. It almost sounded like an oxymoron, but at the same time it wasn't. Real strange). They imagined themselves showing off the full stature to the world, astonishing bodybuilders and scientists alike as the bore witness to the biggest, tallest boys the world had ever seen, and possibly would ever see.

Then, Sam felt his head slam directly into the ceiling with a hearty thwack, eliciting a sound that he adamantly denied was shriek and a nasty bump on his head as he had to crouch down to give more room for his body. As he felt the walls of the bedroom beginning to bear down on him, Sam decided to pipe up:

"Uh, David. I think we're big enough now."

He said the words loud and clear, leaving no room for ambiguity or misconstruction. Yet David did not respond. If anything, he didn't seem to have heard him at all. He was just staring out into the abyss, not even flinching at the legs of his bed groaning out in agony before snapping altogether.

"David?"

At this point, both Paul and Sam were starting to get concerned. Their limbs were quickly running out of space to move around, pressing themselves painfully against the hard wood of the walls. The room itself seemed to almost be moaning, the floor barely keeping up the increasing weight it was being made to bear. Chairs and bedside tables were knocked aside and then pressed against expanding walls of meat until they exploded in a shower of splinters, pelting their bodies with a hail of blisters. What little clothes they still had

"That's enough, David!" Paul yelled, decidedly much less enthusiastic about his height than he was a few minutes ago. "You can stop now!"

The bedroom walls were closing in on them at. Whatever furniture remained was now completely destroyed, smothered under soft, firm skin. Every bone and muscle in their bodies was screeching in agony as the tiny room quickly became a suffocating tomb, a tiny little box that could barely hold them in and was now threatening to turn them into a gore slurry. All the while, David continued smiling his serene smile, dead to the world.

"DAVID!"

"When I said we're gonna be the biggest people on Earth, I meant it." David said those words in a clear, concise voice, his tone betraying absolutely nothing. There was no inflection, no sense of what he was thinking, not even a hint of joy or fear to be found. All they could hear was a total, serene calmness, comparable to a Tibetan monk. You could almost imagine him floating on top of a lily pad in an open pond, unperturbed by the world's foibles.

"T-the hell do you mean!?" Paul sputtered, trying to bring his limbs in as close as he could in the ever-decreasing space. "We're already far past the tallest man on record, so why haven't we stopped!"

David did not skip a beat as he replied to his friend's panicked words. "C'mon, guys. You know I wasn't going to simply stop at being taller than some guy in the Guinness records. I mean, look at this."

Once more, David held the amulet up, which had been growing with them all this time. Although, it was less that he was holding it up, and more that he was pinching it in his fingers, his knuckles a deathly pale from how tightly he was gripping it in what little space his arms could afford. The amulet itself was shining a bright, searing yellow, so bright that if you looked too closely, you could feel your retinas burning from the inside.

"All this power, and we're just gonna let it go to waste? No, we're using it all the way. I'm not stopping until we're..."
