After Dr. Bittersweet was arrested and the antidote for her Passion Patties was created, Clover was one of the first people to have it administered. Unfortunately for her, it didn't work out exactly as planned. While everyone was turned exactly back to their normal selves, Clover stayed as the immense 588 pound super spy, though the antidote did remove the addiction to the Passion Patties.
Clover was disappointed then, but her mood only grew worse when any attempts to lose even a pound of fat permanently proved futile. A crash diet and exercise regime caused Clover to lose a few pounds before gaining them back due to her increased appetite and even surgery proved useless. WHOOP spent hours trying to find out why Clover was so resistant to weight loss but so far, nothing close to an answer has appeared.
In the meantime, Clover was in a deep depression. She was taken off active spy duty because a near 600 pound girl wouldn't be able to do any covert operations, she became subjected to teasing by everyone at school (especially by Mandy), and she was growing weary of hearing Sam and Alex's slip-of-the-tongue comments about her size.
So being convinced her life was over, Clover spent most of the weeks after the mission locked up in her room, only going out to get more food to eat. One weird side-effect of the cookies WHOOP had noticed was that Clover was almost just as mobile as before along with her increased strength (as demonstrated during her sumo match with Bittersweet's minion) so getting around was no trouble for her, even as she continued to gain weight.
