Chapter #7Never turn down free snacks. by: Spots   You're just looking for something to stave off the hunger, and you should probably be looking to conserve what little money you have, after all, you only have 40 dollars, no job, and no place to sleep. You should really be thinking forward on how to make this last until you secure an actual source of income. You look over the options for the cheapest snacks. Below all the expensive snacks with the weird numbers, you spot a row of unmarked bars. They look like protein bars, though the brand you haven't heard of, each marked with 'Product of Abis Inc'. However, they are far cheaper than the stuff above. Your stomach growls and you decide it'll have to do, and at 50 cents a bar, it'll hardly put a dent in your limited wallet. You put in a dollar, and put in the number for one of the Abis bars. It drops into the bottom, and there is a jingle of your change as it drops into the coin slot. You fish it out, and notice there is a gold colored coin in your change. At first glance it looks like a souvenir coin or some sort, so you put it in your pocket and put the next 50 cents in the machine, and get another bar.
A jingle from the coin slot catches you by surprise, and you look to find another of those coins. Looking closer at them, you see 'ABIS PRIZE TOKEN' engraved on the edge. Curiously, you put in another dollar to get your third bar, and check the coins again. Sure enough, another of those tokens comes out in your change. Maybe this is some sort of promotional gimmick for the company brand? You're not sure what you can use these tokens for. You look over the coin, then the machine looking for some sort of instruction, but you don't really see any type of explanation. It has to have something to do with the machine, so you put the token into the coin slot to see what happens.
You hear the typical sound of a coin dropping into place, then three stars pop up on the small display that would usually display the price. One star is filled in with two others remain as outline. You put in the second token, and the stars flash again with the second star filled. You think you get it, it's like a 'buy three get something free' type deals. You put in the last token, and the third star lights up. The machine plays a short jingle and you hear something drop into the bottom. You check and fish out a fourth Abis bar, this one with shiny reflective lines on it and 'ABIS PLUS' emblazoned on it. Neat, free stuff. With all your bars, you think about what to do next, should you spread these out? Or are you hungry enough to just eat it all?   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
