Stay in Melissa's point of view

I stared in shock at my purse. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. I closed my eyes and tried to hide the image that was burned into my brain. When I opened my eyes I still saw John, sitting there on top of my wallet, fear etched into his face. I opened my mouth to speak but I couldn’t find the words. He was just so small. I wondered about how this could go, my mind filled with situations, none of them having a happy ending. I motioned to pick him up and he flinched as he got to his feet and slowly began to back away. I finally found something to say “It’s okay,” I smiled and then finished the sentence “Johnny-Poo”
I saw him get tight for a moment, I knew he hated the nick-name, but I couldn’t have held myself back. He relaxed a bit and he slowly started to walk toward my hand. He stepped onto it and it felt like a grasshopper trying to run away. I felt bad for him, I couldn’t help but wonder what was going through his head at the precise moment but I knew that it would wait. He climbed into my open palm and I raised him out of my purse and up to chest level to get a closer look at him. As my hand moved through the air I watched him hold on for dear life; his hands grabbing the ridges in my flesh felt like someone was lightly pinching them and I had to resist the urge to clamp them shut to stop the pinch. As I got him closer I noticed the gash on his face. It looked deep and part of his brown hair hand been mated down and tainted red. I drew in a sudden gasp as he looked at me. “Oh my god what happened to your head?” I asked. He covered his ears and I realized how loud I was speaking and what I must sound like to him. “I’m sorry” I whispered to him as he pulled his hands away from his ears.
He opened his mouth to speak but then closed it again. I must intimidate him I thought to myself as he looked at me with a sad look on his face.
