It was meant to just be a quick session. A report to the Dark Lord about developments at Hogwarts. The latest information on that blasted Potter child, and a chance to confirm his Unbreakable Vow. A slit like smile passed with unfamiliar contempt briefly across Voldemort's face.
Draco was inadequate to the task, he knew that when he'd handed to him. The job was assigned purely to torture Lucius for his failure. He rarely allowed emotions to sway his decisions. But after hearing of the Potter child's latest interference, he was apoplectic with rage. He cursed Harry Potter, all mud-bloods, and every whelp and bitch in Harry's heritage.
At the height of his rage, he felt a chink in Snape's front, a niggling dishonesty. It only took a moment, before he dove relentlessly, heedlessly in the Professor's mind. He uncovered his love for Lily, he uncovered Snape's betrayal.
The betrayal, shocked him to the core. It took him a moment to accept, doubts about his greatest double agent. Surely, not.
The moment was enough for Severus. It allowed him to erect some defences, to prevent an unforgivable curse. But he felt his back rip, the flesh flayed away, as he apparated away from the Dark Lord.
With an outraged shriek of pain, and blood pouring freely down his tattered spine. Severus landed in Hogsmeade, slumping forward into a snow bank, a hot splash of blood accompanied his injury. It felt like he'd been splinched.
He felt his heart weaken, trembling against the outrage of his injury. The castle outline on the horizon, was temptingly close. His potion and herb cupboard so far away, and yet just one more apparation away.
He'd hoped not to reveal it, hoped never to need Dumbledore's secret knowledge. The one place in the castle where a person could arrive. His eyes burned and blurred as he glowered at the top of the tower. Closing his eyes, sealing out the pain, the distraction he felt himself enfolded in the ether.
Relief filled him, when he felt wooden boards beneath his knees. The chains rattled and the floor creaked as he pulled himself erect. The moonlight was brighter here. Voldemort's damage visible. Passing a window, he scowled at the reflection. There were those who thought the Dark Lord entirely humourless, but he wore the mark of his humour.
Reflecting back at Severus Snape, were the emerald green eyes of Lily Potter, and behind those eyes enough of Severus remained that would haunt him... Taking a deep pain-wracked breath, he took in the other changes. The head of Slytherin, Severus Snape was no more, in his place, she stood. Segolene Snape, her body female, her face familiar and those eyes... the eyes he loved, those accusing eyes looking back from every mirror.
His arrival wasn't unnoticed, and as she heard the approach of racing feet, she braced herself for exposure. Thankfully, it was Albus himself, the healing only took a moment, and the pain was removed she shrieked at it's sudden withdrawal.
But she stood alone, with as much dignity as she could manage.

Her groan was softer, more sensual than she wished. More resigned, somehow she knew, this would be a longer prospect, if she had any hope for the restoration of her gender, it would be after much pain, and diligent research. Aware of the awkwardness, Albus reached to help support his friend as they descended deeper into the castle. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
