Tom and Eric didn't really see much of each other over the next week. The two of them grabbed lunch a few times, but Eric got the sense that Tom wasn't as into it as he normally was. It even seemed like he was trying to cut back and eat less, though he wasn't exactly having much success on that front. He was eating as much as ever, only now it seemed like he was feeling bad about it. Eric didn't know what was up, but he certainly didn't like it. Still, he thought it best to give Tom some space. Any consolation he could offer wouldn't be of much help yet, especially since he didn't know exactly what was wrong.
So Tom spent much of the next week once again holed up in his room feeling sorry for himself. Before this summer he never would have let what two random chicks said get him down. If anything, people would have said he was too sure of himself. He hadn't felt that way since being dumped, and being mocked by those girls, in public no less, had really gotten to him.
He spent a lot of that week dreaming about getting back his old muscular body and reclaiming his former glory. He missed the feeling that came with catching peoples' eyes and knowing they liked what they saw. "Not like that's gonna happen while I've got this gut."
