Chapter #2

The growing twins

The gun had fired in the direction of the twins. Justin couldn’t help it; he accidentally touched the trigger, pulled it too far, causing the gun to fire. As he stood there, with the gun still in his hands looking down at it, in front of the table, he noticed a blue hew illuminating the garden from the opposite side of the table. He looked up, trying to see who he had hit, when the blue radiation was already gone. Two pairs of wide opened eyes were staring straight at him, all four filled with disbelief.

Which one of his brothers had he hit? He wasn’t sure, it wasn’t obvious. They both reacted the same, not one reacted differently…unusual. Did he hit Dylan, the athletic gymnast of the family, or his twin-brother Davy, the comic-geek?

Justin looked at other members around the table; they all looked at him with emptiness in their eyes. No-one had seen what has happened; it all happened too fast.

“Dylan…Davy…are you alright? Did I accidentally hit one of you?!?” he ultimately asked.

Both boys looked at Justin with doubt, and then they looked at each other. Not even they knew what happened; neither one of them had felt strange.

“I’m sure as hell not hit…” Dylan replied as he looked his twin brother straight in the eyes.

“Me neither…!” Davy added, turning his head to face Justin.

“Oh thank god! So I missed!”, Justin sighed relieved, “I wasn’t sure if I had hurt one of you guys…thank god you’re OK!”

“Well, lucky us…”, Davy yelled somewhat shocked, “…could you also explain to us WHAT you shot us with?!?”

His brother joined in. “Yeah! And WHY you shot at us with an unknown device in the first place…? A bit trigger-happy, now are you?”

“Now, now, there’s no reason to get angry all of a sudden…” Frank, the dad, joined in to calm the twins’ senses.

Justin didn’t know how to respond as he looked back down at the gun in his hands. “I…I really didn’t mean to hurt you…I just…”

“You just WHAT?!?” Dylan yelled somewhat furious as it dawned on him what his big brother had just done. He stood up from his chair and walked over to his big brother. They were both the same height, so they saw eye to eye. “Care to explain yourself a bit more…” Dylan said as he gave his big brother a push. Justin fell backwards, quickly adjusting his stance as not to fall completely. Even though he was the older brother, he lacked the size. His little brother was bigger due to his gymnastics; he could easily push his big brother down. This was why Justin always tried to avoid conflicts with his little brothers.

As Justin wanted to shove Dylan back, Frank stood up and separated the boys. Davy quickly gathered behind his twin brother, which he always did as they were in a fight. His saw his brother as his protector.

“Boys, BOYS!” Frank yelled to calm down the boys of his family. “Now there is absolutely no reason to fight each other. Dylan…it was just an accident, and Justin…please nicely apologize to your brother!”

Both Dylan and Justin looked at their father. Even though he was skinny in size, he made up for it in height and authority. He still towered over his sons and he knew how to take advantage out of that.

“We all can be lucky he missed and nothing serious happened…” Frank added.

“…he didn’t necessarily…miss!” Davy finished.
