Chapter #4

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

Cindy pounded the door one last time lightly with her fist before turing away. "Damn." She cursed lightly under her breath as she walked back out into the mall. "At least this place seems empty... not that I would want to stick around and find out." She put her gun back into her purse and ventured a little further away from the hall towards a directory next to a hair and make up store. "Okay... now where can I find a blunt instrament to bust open that door?" She said to herself as she skimmed down the list of nearby stores. "Let's see... according to this there's a sporting goods store up ahead... not likely the type of place to stock up on sledgehammers or crowbars. Guess it'll have to do though." With that she quickly made her way to the store and walked inside.

The interrior was small, but was lined wall to wall with useful gear and potental weapons. Its clean floor and distinct lack of blood stains meant it had also managed to avoid an infestation of undead like most of the rest of the mall. "I never was a big sports fan, but after this I might have to rethink my opinion." Cindy mused to herself as she grabbed a football helmet and some padding to protect herself. "Not exactly high fashion, but it'll definately help me stay alive." She said in a bittersweet tone as she looked herself over in a small mirror. "I just hope I get rescued before this thing starts to smell." She spent a few minutes searching for a sutible weapon that would allow her to open the door. It couldn't be too heavy, but had to have a strong enough impact to get her inside.

"Ah-ha! Here we go!" She called out as she grabbed a 9 iron from a nearby shelf. It was heavier than she expected, but should easily allow her to break the door open. "Alright, now I just have to get back before any more of these disgusting things show up." The trip back to the security door was just as uneventful as the one to the store and Cindy soon found herself staring at the same knob that had denied her access before. With 3 solid whacks the lock gave and broke with a loud thumping sound. Cindy pulled the door free and began climbing the stairs up to the roof. "Finally, all I have to do now is wait for a helicopter or something to come along and pick me up."

She turned the knob on one final door and stepped out onto the mall's roof. The floor was a mess of trash and various discarded items, all scattered about. Cindy paided no attention to this however, as a man in a blood smeared t-shirt was standing over the edge and looking down at the city below him. "Whoa, hey over there!" Cindy called out as she took a few steps closer. "You shouldn't stand so close to the edge! Do you guys have room for one more?" The man seemed to ignore her comment at first, only to turn around just as she was about to ask him if he heard her. His entire lower jaw was hanging loose from his mouth and about half of his face seemed to have been ripped or peeled off. "Oh my god!" Cindy yelled out in surprise as the lowly zombie began shuffling closer...
