It was early autumn, my first year of college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Whitewater was a much smaller town than what I was used to back in Chicago where I grew up. It meant college was on the cheaper side, hence why I was there. My plan was to learn my first two years of my major, whatever that ended up being, then transfer to another UW campus if I needed to. At the time, I believe I was looking into computer science.
No, what's important is what happened on that day, the day I arrived at my dorm. Back then, anthros weren't treated as equals. I hate to put it like this, but it was really a form of racism. Many anthros were discredited for being less intelligent than humans. There were several programs meant to help them, in fact I was taking part of one, where I would stay in a dorm room with an anthro for the year for cheaper housing. Yes, I know, it sounds terrible that they had to do this back then, but that was the way the world worked.
Sorry, back on track. I had arrived at my dorm. The anthro I was staying with was Brendan Griffin, an anthro snow leopard. He had already messaged me (we exchanged numbers previously, part of the program) that he was already there, along with telling me a few things about himself. To put it as he did, he was "built like a twig, and about as strong as one too". He was majoring in business, something to do with business management I believe. Oh, and he said he was a bit shy and loved rpg games from Skyrim to DnD to some others I can't remember.
Anyway, I was simply bringing in some things when I entered the dorm room. The whole building was practically empty, we had both managed to be some of the very first to arrive. I remember the faded purple wallpaper that lined every hallway, since that and white were our school's colors. I arrived at the room, #317, and unlocked the door. I opened it to see Brendan for the first time.
Lying on the floor, panting heavily, injured.
He was...
