The more Laura thought about it the more she wanted to test out the phone before using it on herself to make sure it was safe. At the same time, though, it didn't seem right to just change them without asking. She'd never forgive herself if she caused harm to Jason or Samantha all because she wanted to keep herself safe.
Laura exited the Alterations app and called Samantha's phone. She watched from the balcony as Sam pulled her phone out of her pocket then glanced back at Laura's house and waved while she answered.
"Hey!" Samantha was probably annoyed that Laura was interrupting her time with Jason but her voice sounded excited to hear from her nonetheless.
"Hey Sam!" Laura replied. "I was wondering if you guys would be willing to come over. I found something interesting I wanted to share."
"Uh, sure. We'll be up there in a few minutes."
Laura returned to her room and paced around waiting for her friends to arrive. Once they did she explained everything about the mysterious app and what it claimed to be able to do. Of course she left out just how close she had come to experimenting on them without their permission.
"I know it probably doesn't do a thing," Laura told them, "but the fact that it identified me then you and even people way up the beach is at least intriguing."
Jason and Samantha were silent for a long time. Finally Jason said, "Well, are we going to try it out?"
Samantha nodded. "But who do we try it on?"
Laura decided to leave it up to chance. It was only fair to include herself in the running to be altered. She reached into a drawer that contained her old Dungeons and Dragons supplies and pulled out a six sided die. "Okay, Jason you're one and two. Sam you get three and four. I'll take five and six. Whatever number comes up is the one that will go first."
Jason and Samantha agreed. Then Laura took a deep breath and tossed the die high into the air spinning it wildly. It landed on the floor and rolled finally coming to a stop by Laura.
