Jane was relaxing on the couch reading as her younger siblings Rebekah and Daniel came in from their last day of school before summer break. Both were ripping into each other over their P.E. final. Rebekah was being the loudest. "Oh I could have ran all day like that. You're just a little baby and didn't want go longer than a mile."
Daniel came back quickly, "Yeah right, I saw you gasping for breath at the end. I couldn't outlasted you easy." Jane eyed the two, already dreading spending a summer baby-sitting them. Mom and dad had had to go out of the country on business, and as the oldest, she was stuck with the two brats. She sighed, went back to her book, but as she listened to them bicker over who would have given up first, a wicked grin crept onto her face.
"It'll just make watching them easier after all, not to mention be a lot of fun..." she thought. "Hey you two, get your butts in here!" Jane yelled to them. They both came in, lightly trying to push each other out of the way. "Look, I know I you're my responsibility for the summer, but i'm not going to put up with it. So if you want, we can decide this endurance contest right now. Keep in mind though, the decision will be final. The loser will have to live with the shame forever."
Both of them lit up at the thought of having bragging rights over the other. Rebekah quickly asked "Alright, lets do this. What do we need to do?"
Jane wiggled her toes, eyeing her grungy sweat socks that hadn't been changed since she was at the gym this morning. "Go get my slippers, and I'll tell you." They both raced for them, trying to shove the other down. They made it back at the same time, Daniel with the left one, Rebekah with the right now. "Now, I imagine you'll both do just about anything to decide this, right?"
Daniel started to look nervously at the sweat stained, grimy soles of the slippers. Rebekah sees this, and quickly nods her affirmative. Not to look like a coward, Daniel joins in. "Alright then," And with a snap of her fingers, both her bratty siblings disappeared in a puff of smoke. Their clothes dropped to the floor. Fishing through them, she pulled out the slippers and inspected them. On each of the insoles was a cartoonish caricature of their faces, Daniel the left slipper, Rebekah the right one. Both still moved to match their emotion, like a cartoon made out of cloth, stitched into the sole, but constantly changing. Neither looked thrilled. She turned them to face each other.
"Here's what's going to happen. You'll stay like this, and I'll wear you just like the footwear you are, until tomorrow morning. At that point, I'll give you back your voices, and if either of you wimp out and want to give up," she saw both of their eyes narrow into glares at each other at the words 'give up'. Rebekah stuck out her two dimentional tongue at Daniel, then seemed to regret it and made a disgusted cross eyed face, "Anyways, if one of you wants to give up, then it's over. I change you back, and declare a winner, and more imporantly, a loser. If not, then you'll be my gym shoes for that morning and the next so that you're stuck through two workouts. If you still havent' given up, you'll be my favorite dance heels for a week. And I WILL be going out every night that week." She was amused to see both of them look horrified at that prospect. She knew that they'd each borrowed one to use as a 'wake up alarm' for the other, which usually resulted in the victim having to scrub their face to get the stink to go away. "If you both last past then, well, we'll figure something out. Either other clothing, or you can both be tattoos between my toes until one of you breaks."
She saw each of them looking wary, probably thinking if this was really worth it. Jane decided to sweeten the deal, "And at the end, if you win Rebekah, I'll give you power over Daniel's form for a month straight. Daniel, unfortunately boys can't wear or interact at length with transformed people, but you can decide a girl that will have the same power over herfor a month she'd have over you. How's that sound? Say yes or no." Each glared at the other, the thought of tormenting the other for a month straight upon victory too good of a deal to pass up. Rebekah was imagining how many outfits he could be part of, Daniel making a list of girls that would have grudges against her. They both nodded emphatically and agreed. June couldn't deny that the determined expression on each of their cartoonish faces was adorable. She thought to herself, "Maybe if they both give up, I'll take both their months and make them whatever I want during them..."
Both of their voices went silent again as June slipped them on her stinky feet. She wiggled her sock covered feet on both their mouths for a moment, and sighed happily to herself "Finally, some peace and quiet," as she went back to her book
