Your father was currently out at work, so you wouldn't be able to use the device on him for a while. That left two family members: your mother and your younger sister Janice. Your mother was currently taking care of cleaning the bathrooms of the house. She usually gets too focused on her work and won't immediately notice you. Meanwhile, Janice was in her room doing her homework. She always wears headphones and listens to music when doing homework, so she wouldn't immediately notice you either.
