“What do you mean that my body is dead?!” Jack thundered, or at least he would have if his new, female body was capable of being intimidating in any way. He had woken up in the exceedingly sexy body of Maria Hernan as he’d expected, but both Dr. Straus and Jack’s boss, Commander Navarro, were grim-faced when they came to see him. The doctor assured him that everything had gone well transferring Jack’s mind into Maria’s body.
They had run a few exercises to make sure that Jack had full control of Maria’s body and everything functioned as it should. In fact, Jack had been surprised that he hadn’t stumbled or had any issue moving in Maria’s body. He was able to walk and move around naturally. When Jack asked Dr. Straus about why he could suddenly walk in Maria’s towering heels the doctor explained that they had left part of Maria’s mind behind so Jack could pass as her without issue.
Jack wasn’t really comfortable with having a piece of Maria’s mind along for the ride, but he had been nervous about learning how to make a convincing Maria Hernan and this would make things a lot easier. The doctor had asked a few questions for Jack as well, “Where were you born?”
“In Medellin, Colombia,” Jack replied without hesitation. “Wait a minute! That’s not right, is it?” the undercover agent asked, his face scrunching up in confusion. He was certain that he wasn’t born in Colombia. “As I said, we left some of the original Maria Hernan’s memories and knowledge so you don’t blow your cover. It is imperative you stay in character for the duration of your mission,” the doctor explained. “What is the date of your anniversary?”
“August 13th. In just a week!” he replied, surprised that the knowledge came so readily.
“What is your bra size?” the doctor asked.
“I’m a 32F and all natural!” your eye would have popped out if they could. Not only did you somehow know your new body’s measurements, but the measurements themselves were cause for surprise. The doctor asked the agent several more questions that Jack couldn’t have possibly known the answers to, but did anyways. He was asked to perform a series of exercises to make sure he had full control of his new body. Jack managed to do all the exercises without issue, but the constant jiggling of his new body was a constant reminder of his current situation.
“Good, very good. Your consciousness seems to have grafted perfectly onto your new body. Your recall is perfect,” the doctor scribbled some notes on his tablet. Jack didn’t know how to respond to that. Commander Navarro had been standing silently off to the side during the whole exam.
Jack knew something was up from Navarro’s expression, but he was trained to wait for his superiors to talk first. “Alright, commander, I’m done with the examination. She’s all yours,” he motioned towards Jack. This was the first time Jack had been referred to with a female pronoun and he wasn’t sure how he felt about it. He supposed he would have to get used to it for the length of the mission.
The covert agent stood at attention, his impressive chest outthrust and his hands behind his back as he’d been taught s very long ago. This time, however, it had a disquieting effect on his superior, who struggled to look away from Jack’s chest.
Navarro gulped and cleared his throat, “Jack, err, I guess I should call you Mrs. Hernan for the time being …” You nodded, accepting that this would be your name and identity until you were back in your body.
“… Mrs. Hernan, the Agency is very grateful that you volunteered for this assignment and for the enormous risks you are taking,” Navarro wasn’t one for beating around the bush, so Jack wondered what was going on. “This line of work … uh … damnit, Jack … I’m sorry,” Navarro said, looking away.
“What is it Comander?” Jack asked, confused.
“Your body died during the transfer,” the doctor interjected. “What do you mean that my body is dead?!” Jack’s new voice couldn’t muster the anger or fire that his old one could have, but both Dr. Straus and Commander Navarro took a step back.
“Jack, this is still experimental technology, you’re one of the first to go through it. Maria’s mind just didn’t sync with your body. The doctor did everything possible to keep your body alive, but these things happen …” he trailed off.
“’These things happen?’ What kind of excuse is that? What am I going to do now?” Jack asked losing any pretense of standing at attention. Navarro put his hands up defensively, “Mrs. Hernan, Jack … ugh! Take a breath!” Jack had wanted to punch Navarro, but he held back. “What, what do we do now?” the agent asked.
“It is possible that we could grow a clone body for you to transfer back, but it is a longshot and it will take a long time before it would be ready,” the doctor chimed in. “Yes, so the higher ups have decided the best course of action is for your mission to be long term. Instead of taking out terminating your husband, you’ll stay in deep cover and look for intel within the organization,” Navarro explained.
“What? Long term? How long term are we talking?” Jack asked.
“Well, it will depend in part on how your clone body develops so this will be an open-ended operation. We’ve never had someone embedded with the organization. You could be the key to bringing them down,” Navarro couldn’t look at Jack in the eyes as he said this.
Jack looked at Navarro and then at the doctor, “I’ll do my job, but make sure that clone body is ready sooner, rather than later, alright!?” he pointed at both the men and did his best to look as threatening as his new body would allow. He unconsciously adjusted his tight-fitting bodycon red dress. “I’m sure someone will notice if Maria … if I’m away for much longer. I should get going,” Jack grabbed a matching purse off a table close-by, fishing a tube of lipstick and reapplying it to his plump lips without thinking.
