Chapter #3

Reboot

Despite our best efforts, my dad and I couldn’t hold on to each other anymore; and I started getting pulled towards the portal, along with a large amount of equipment and things from the basement. I tried grabbing a handle as I went past, only for it to break off and enter the portal with me.

The trip through the portal seemed to be instantaneous; the next thing I knew, I was lying atop the pile of debris that had come through with me. As I began to regain my senses, I couldn’t help but notice my body felt strange. I wanted to get a closer look by a cloud of dust was obscuring my view. Climbing down off the debris pile, I started crawling towards where I hoped my parents were.

After crawling for what seemed like an eternity, to my surprise, I bumped into a glass wall in front of me. “That wasn’t here before, what’s going on?”

I started pounding on the glass; which must’ve gotten the attention of whoever was on the other side. Everything was muffled, but
I could hear a woman’s voice say, “Honey, there’s someone inside the containment area.”

Pounding on the glass some more, I said, “Let me out of here!”

I couldn’t help but notice my voice sounded different; like I was briefing helium or something. I didn’t have time to dwell on that, because I heard the hiss of a door opening nearby. Hoping it was the way out, I made my ways towards it; only to find what appeared to be my mom, wearing a HAZMAT suit. “Everything’s going to be alright, sweetie.” The voice was distorted because of the mask but I knew it was her. “I know you’re scared but I'm not going to hurt you."

Taking the woman’s hand, I inched closer only to stop and gasp when I saw her face through the helmet. The face staring back at me looked like my mom, but there were some notable differences – the most notable being that her hair was brown instead of dark blonde. “You... you’re not my mom!” backing away, I said, “Who are you? Where am I?”

"Easy sweetie.” Looking at me, the woman said, “My name’s Natasha, my husband and I were working on a device to explore other worlds; including your own. We certainly didn’t mean to pull you through as well.”

What the hell was Dad working on? Shocked, I looked at Natasha and said, “I'm in another world!?”

“More precisely, you’re in another universe.” Looking at me, Natasha said, “It seems your trip left you a little banged up; I don’t think it would be a good idea to send you back in that condition. May I ask why you’re wearing oversized boys' clothing?”

“Because I’m a boy.” Perplexed, I looked at her and said, “A lot of people mistake me for a little girl; because of my height, body shape and feminine face.”

Natasha looked at me for a moment before, sadly, saying, “I’m afraid I’m not mistaken, young lady.” Sighing, she said, “Taking a look at your reflection.”

Worried about what I was going to see, I looked at the glass wall and found the reflection of a young girl staring back at me; with budding breasts and torn ill-fitting boy’s clothing. No, this can’t be happening. Not caring that Natasha was watching, I pulled down the front of my jeans to look inside. When I saw a girl’s vagina instead of my penis, I quickly turned back to my reflection in the mirror. “I'm a girl!?”

I then screamed at the top of my lungs before collapsing to the floor. When I came too again, I found myself in...
