Mark was tired of his look. He'd never been into clothes and there weren't many many wardrobe choices in the military. In his new job, he'd been feeling like the country bumpkin in his khakis and loafers. Not to mention that the 36 inch slacks that he'd settled into after 20 years wearing 32's were now tight. He needed some new clothes and he was going to up his game and go for the executive look.
"I need a wardrobe upgrade." he told the salesman. He was uncomfortable in the upscale men's store. The prices seemed outrageous to a guy who thought JC Penney's was upscale but he'd thought long and hard about his career and dressing like a dweeb wasn't going to work. His coworkers all wore designer suits. He was never going to get his career in gear without looking like a million bucks.
The salesman smiled. He'd seen plenty of hicks think they were ready for Neiman Marcus.
Mark looked down with embarrassment as the salesman sized him up.
"Let;s try you with a 46 long. You have something special in mind?"
"Fits you pretty well." The salesman buttoned the suit jacket which was snug around Mark's belly. We can let this out to give you more room. This designer is good for our more mature customers." He patted Marks belly. "We do sell some undergarments that can help as wwell if you'd like a more athletic silhouette."
Mark walked out of the store $5k lighter but feeling like a million. The guy had fitted him up with a couple of suits, a blazer, 10 shirts, 5 slacks and some shoes. He even had a couple of pair of braces- Mark always thought they were suspenders and he had deccided to wear his suit pants up around his belly rather than ciched below. He'd flinched when he heard that his gut was 48 inches around but somehow that 48 inches filling a white dress shirt and framed by guady green braces made him look like a tycoon.
"I'll pass on that undergarment." he told the salesman. "Good decision. sir." The salesman siad.
