Dimitri was struggling to understand what he was hearing. Was he being denied a chance to compete in sports? Terrador took him aside to speak with him privately.
"I'm sorry, Dimitri," said he, "but Ru-Ka demands certain qualities of its players. Unfortunately, you lack those qualities."
"B-but what do I lack?" the black dragon said, finally finding his voice, "Am I not fit enough. I'm the best flyer there is in Air Dashing."
"I know that," said Terrador, "But you must understand that your body structure is not meant for this."
"What wrong with it?" Dimitri asked, glancing at his sleek, muscular body.
"For starters," began Terrador, "when you where weighed, I found that you did not make the minimum weight. Your a little short as well. Young one, please understand that I'm not discriminating against you. Your very fit, but your body structure isn't meant for a game like Ru-Ka. It rough and often dangerous. Trust me, I've seen it a few times myself."
Dimitri looked at the small group of dragons assembled in the Flying Grounds. Some were tall, others very muscular, and two were chubby.
But only one thing mattered: they were all bigger and heavier than the black dragon. Heck, even Ash got in, and he, Dimitri realized for the first time, was only a few inches taller than him and weighed only a few pounds extra.
The maroon dragon was categorizes as a "lightweight" in the team.
Dimitri sighed and hung his head in disappointment. "I understand," he said.
"Good dragon," said Terrador, "There's no use crying over this your whole life. The best is now just to move on."
Dimitri nodded sadly as he left the Flying Grounds. He didn't want to stick around to watch the practice, for he was too disappointed to care.
The black dragon sighed heavily and sat on a stone bench outside the school's entrance, which was bathed in the orange rays of the late afternoon sun.
Even from here he could here the shouts of the players, cries of joy as a goal was scored, and Terrador barking orders. It only served to make Dimitri feel worse.
Too light, hey?" Body structure not meant for this, hey? It was ridiculous. How could he be denied this? The black dragon was the coolest dragon at school.
But the rules were the rules. He could do nothing about that...but he could do something about himself. Dimitri's raised his head as hope returned.
Yes, he could bulk up, but how was he going to do that? Well, he could stuff himself with sweets and turn into a fat ass or train excessively and gain muscle, but even doing that would take a lot of time.
He wanted to be on the team now. But how? Just how? Then it hit him. A grin worked its way on Dimitri's face. He jumped off of the bench and raced back home.
