As Spyro examined the book again Cynders eyes began to wander and she explored the library around them a bit. One of the books on the shelves caught her eye and she reached up with her new size to give it a tug. However, the book would not budge and instead a loud click was heard as a section of the wall slid away.
Spyro looked up to see what she'd found and the pair gaped at the room beyond. It was as big as the library but contained one single book on a slanted stand. However the book was enormous. Even with Cynders increased size she wouldn't have been able to cover one page with her whole body. And Spyro was smaller than the protective metal corners on the cover of the binding.
Aside from the sheer size of it though the most fascinating thing about it was that it seemed to be filling in as they watched. At the moment the book was open and one page was full but the other appeared to be half-full, lines of tiny text no bigger than normal handwriting scrawling across the page. And as they watched for several minutes the page slowly filled in. And then with a sound like a great sail turning in the wind, the page flipped and the next completely blank page began to fill.
Curiosity drew the pair forward and Spuro flew up to read what he could. The text was in some form he couldn't understand, and yet as he looked the letters seemed to reshape themselves into the common language.
Spyro read from the book at the top of the page. " 'It was about this time when Spyro and Cynder discovered the Tome of Time. The most powerful magical book in all of existence. The greatest power to exist in the world before them. And as Spyro read he began to understand.' "
"Spyro?" Cynder looked at her friend, "What does it mean? How can we be in this book?"
"I think.... I think this is the Tome of Time like it said," Spyro marveled, "The Chronicler once told me that he had books that recorded all of history, that filled in as events happened. But all of them were just pale copies of the original. This must be it. THE Book of Time. It's recording everything that's happening as it happens. But it's not just recording time, it's the definitive record of everything."
"So wait..." Cynder mused, "Does that mean if something is written in the book it'll happen? Could we change the future. Or even the past?"
"Maybe..." Spyro breathed and shivered a little, the possibility of such a chance to control things was both enticing and overwhelming at the same time.
