This choice: They found themselves in an ancient library  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

The library of ancient secrets.

    by: Unknown
Spyro and Cynder found, when the traveled down the stairs, the purple dragon illuminating the way, that they had stumbled upon what seemed to be a underground library: the shape was like that of a dome, with stone shelves in the walls where books could be stacked. And, of course, there was books, lots of books; they all varied in size, ranging from scrolls and pamphlets to tombs so large that Cynder speculated that even a grown dragon would be left huffing and puffing if he or she had to carry such a burden. But the place seemed largely neglected: cobwebs and dust were everywhere, hanging on shelves and covering books.

Spyro would have liked to compare this library to the Chronicler's lair, but it lacked in half the size, and it didn't have the enormous, glowing hourglass in its center: instead there was a elegant wooden stand, which looked like it was created by a skilled wood carver. On the stand lied the biggest book, so large that it dwarfed the huge tombs, that Spyro and Cynder had ever seen.

Curious, the two dragons decided to examine the book. Hardened wax were stained all across the pages that had dripped from candles nearby. They were still in a functioning order, which was a good thing, for Spyro's chest was beginning to ache due to the swirling fires in his body. He lit a few with the same element before he extinguished it inside him.

Now with the pages lit, Spyro and Cynder saw, to their dismay, that they were written on with the language of the dragons of old, which was, at least for them, hard to decipher. It made them regret for not listening when the guardians lectured them about their history. Luckily Spyro had some knowledge about the words, for he payed more attention in classes than Cynder.

Squinting his eyes in the dim light, he made out the words "spell", "transformation", and "growth". He could also pronounce the words, though, but he didn't know what he was saying at all.

"I think I should try one out," said Spyro, mouthing the words silently to make sure he would say it right.

"That doesn't sound like a very good idea, Spyro," said Cynder, "We have no idea what could happen."

But Spyro was not swayed by the black dragoness's warning. "There is only one way to find out." And with that said, Spyro began to read the words, his voice sounding odd as he spoke the ancient words.
