You decide to try and find a different hiding place. They would probably expect you to hide in either of those places anyway. You run through the jungle for what seems like a long time. Your legs are exhausted, your lungs are burning, and you're covered in sweat. They must have sent the hunters in after you by now.
You slow down to a walk, when your suddenly trip. You look down to see a vine wrapped around your ankle. You sit back up and try to get it off, but it only tightens. You tug and tear at it for several minutes, but by now it's starting to cut off the circulation to your foot.
You hear footsteps approaching from behind. It must be one of the hunters! You draw your knife and turn around. There, looking down at you is a ten foot tall, anthro doe. She is dressed in a skirt made of palm leaves, the same for her top. She has hands, and hooves instead of feet. On her head is a crown of olive leaves, like a Roman emperor. Two points stick out from the top of her skull, they look more like Hershey Kisses than antlers.
Two eyes as green as her outfit stare down at you half curious, half demanding. "Who are you? What you you doing in my jungle?" She demands. "I......I......I was being hunted." You stammer. "I didn't know this was your jungle."
Her face softens. She snaps her fingers, and the vine around your leg releases you. " I'm sorry about that." She says as she helps you up. "I don't like intruders in my jungle." You put your knife back in its sheath. "Do you have a name?" She asks.
"Jake." You tell her. "What about you?"
She smiles. "I have a name, but you couldn't possibly pronounce it."
"Try me." You say.
She tells you her name. She was right, you couldn't possibly say it. It had to have at least forty syllables!
She giggles upon seeing your confused face. "You can just call me Kri." She takes your hand and you follow her through the jungle. You notice all the ferns and bushes that are in your way instantly part upon her approach, then reform as she passes.
"How are you doing that?" You ask. "Magic." She says simply. "You see, my name, my real name, means Lady of the Jungle. I am the goddess of this place." "You're a goddess!?" You exclaim. "Yes. I give life to all plants on this island. Look."
She reached down and picked up a seed off the ground. She holds it in front of you, and you watch as it instantly begins growing into a flower. "Without me, this place would wither and die." She says. "That's why the inhabitants of this island respect my children."
"Children?" You ask. "Yes. I consider all vegetation on this island my children. The people in the city, they know not to harm them, or there will be dire consequences. Believe me, I can do much worse than cause a drought or have my babies stop producing food for them."
"Like what?" You ask. "Like grow giant carnivorous plants and have them overgrow the city, devouring everything in site, leaving nothing but ruins behind." You stare at her in shock. "But They give me no reason to do such a thing." She says laughing a bit. "They leave me offerings at my shrine, and I give them a bountiful harvest."
You both continue walking, as you talk. "Don't worry about those hunters." She says. "They won't dare harm you, as long as you're with me. I detest killing any living thing, even for food. There's plenty of fruits and vegetables on the island, what do they need meat for?"
Soon, night falls. "So where do you live?" You ask. "This entire jungle is my home. Just curl up anywhere." You lay down on a pile of palm leaves and close your eyes. "Don't worry, I'll be watching you." says Kri, as everything goes black.
