Boardroom Drama

"Where is that dragon?" Glenn asked, pacing back and fort at the front of the long oaken conference table. "I sent him out hours ago!"

"Oh, so you were the reason he left this morning?" Ruby asked, massaging her temples. "You're the man, really,"

"How was I to know he would be unable to find the cafe a half a block away?" the raccon threw his hands in the air.

"Well, there's no point in bitching about it now, guys," James, a mink sitting at the end of the table, grumbled. "Let's just get on with the meeting,"

"Well, we can't really do that without Ike's report, can we?" Ruby shot back.

"I'm sure we can't forge on without the fucking intern," James exclaimed sarcastically. "Let's try to--"

A violent tremor interrupted the mink's rant. Dust fell from the ceiling and several glasses of water fell over. Ruby shot to her feet, looking around in surprise.

"What was that?" she breathed.

"Just a bit of a tremor," Glenn shook his head. "Nothing too out of the ordinary,"

Ruby squeaked and dove under the table as another violent tremor shook the conference room. This wasn't the first time the vixen cursed herself inwardly for moving to such an earthquake-prone area. The power winked out, adding insult to injury.

"The generators will kick in shortly, don't worry," James said reassuringly, sensing Ruby's nerves.

"Where the hell has the Sun gone?" Glenn reathed.

Ruby peeked out from under the table as the safety lights flickered on, bathing the room in faint, pale light. Sure enough, she saw that the windows looking outside showed nothing but pitch black. A third tremor, more powerful than eiher of the others, sent the gathered individuals flying.

"I'm getting out of here," Ruby said. "Too many windows,"

The vixen beat it out of the conference room, stumbling down the dimly lit hallway for the security of her own office. Glenn followed on her heels, trying and failing to appear nonchalant. The pair sat on the floor in the office, bracing themselves against the walls whenever a tremor shook the room.

"Is this ever going to stop?" Ruby asked nervously.

"I'm sure it will soon. There'll be emergency responders coming to check on us soon, I'm sure. This isn't their first rodeo in the earthquake department," Glenn replied.

Ruby stood up as she heard a knock on the door. "Yes?"

James poked his head around the door, visibly nervous. "Er, you... uhh... just look at this,"

Glenn and Ruby followed after James as he rushed back toward the conference room. As they entered, Ruby let out an audible gasp.

Light was streaming once again through the windows, but the view had changed. Rather than a view of the building opposite, the gathered individals saw a single enormous eye peering back at them. It was deep amber with a slit pupil.

"Is that... is that Ike?" Ruby breathed.

James couldn't respond and Glenn, for perhaps the first time in his life, was at a loss for words. Deep chuckling rumbled through the building.

"Hello there. Sorry for the rough transport, but it's the first time I've shrunk a building," Ike's powerful voice resonated through the conference room. "But we're all safe and sound in my apartment now, no worries,"

"What... why...?" James couldn't find the proper words.

Ike chuckled again. "Why not? But I don't have time for your silly questions right now. I think it's time...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
2. ... for a snack,"

*Noteb*
3. ... for Ruby to go on a date with me,"

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
