Time came back to normal, and you suppressed a giggle of glee. It had been years since the last time you'd used your PAID, and so far you were off to a great start!

A knock at the door interrupted your thoughts, followed by Alex's voice. "Mom, have you seen Liz? We need to get going or we're going to be late to school!."

"You should get going Liz," Mrs. Williams said behind you, and this time you couldn't help but giggle. Already you found it hard to think of yourself as ever having been Alex's mom, or marrying Steven. You knew you had... but it seemed almost like a dream, and you couldn't remember any of the details. "Be safe at school," Karen continued. "That young man you're dating is very important to me," she finished with a wink.

"I will, I promise," you say as you duck out into the hall. "Sorry Alex," you say when he looks at you with a raised eyebrow. "Your mom and I had a few things to talk about this morning. Girl stuff..."

"It's cool," he says, shrugging it off and running a hand through his gorgeous brown hair. "I'm just glad you and my mom get on so well."

"Oh, I think we have a special understanding."

"Well, come on, we're going to miss the bus..."
