As you look around at the sleeping people, you realize that everyone in the house has changed. You could tell by the mis-matched clothing. Some of the faces looked familiar, just a different gender. Others you would not have recognized except for familiar clothing. Some you did not recognize at all.
When others woke up, something seemed to keep them from panicking. There was nothing on TV that seemed to show this happened anywhere else. For some reason, I was feeling perfectly comfortable as a female. Even wearing a dress no longer bothered me.
In the chatter of everyone trying to figure out what to do next, Jamie came up to me and said, “Kate, do you plan on staying here?”
I looked up at him, “What did you call me?”
He looked confused, “Kate. What should I call you?”
I hesitated, “You.. are... um.. Leon?” I knew it should be Jamie, but Leon sounded right. He nodded. I began to look around. Something told me there was more changing than we knew. Finally, my eyes settled on a girl's purse, and something was telling me that it was 'my' purse. I hesitated to open it, but I did, and it felt right. Sure enough, there was a wallet with a picture of me, the new me, and my first name had changed to Kate! I had Leon look in his back pocket, and same thing for him. Same last name but new identity. My license said that I was female, five-foot one-inch, but all else was the same.
I dug through my purse, but while I found house keys, I no longer had car keys! Leon looked at me, “What's wrong Katie?”
It did not even occur to me to question being called Katie. “My keys are gone. I think reality has changed, and I came to the party as someone's guest. I don't think I even have a car! How will I get home?”
He smiled, “I seem to have a car. I would be glad to take you home.”
I really didn't have a choice, so I agreed. I even let him open the door for me. It was kind of nice. In spite of my telling him he didn't have to he insisted on walking me to the door. When I turned my head and looked up to thank him...
