Sitting at the small table in the kitchen, Nancy stared out the window, lost in thought. It had been two weeks ago when her friend, Ursula Stevens had stopped in to deliver the cosmetics that Nancy had ordered a week earlier. As the two of them sat on the couch in the living room, Nancy had detected that Ursula had seemed to be a little uncomfortable being there, almost as if she couldn't wait to leave. When asked, initially Ursula had said she just wasn't feeling well but, Nancy knew that wasn't the problem and continued to question her friend. Finally, Ursula had blurted out that she had heard that Nancy's husband, Al, was having an affair with one of the women who worked at his clinic.
Stunned, and quite naturally not believing that it was true, Nancy had pressed Ursula for details. Ursula had been unable to provide any substantial facts or anything that would verify that the stories were true, other than the fact that she had heard a couple of other women, who she refused to name, talking about it. The only thing she knew was that the other women had seemed quite sure that the rumors were true.
Nancy had considered confronting Al about the rumors but, decided that without any further proof, all it would do is cause a huge argument and, even it it were true, Al would deny everything. She did have to admit to herself however, that recently, there had been a few signs and signals that something might be going on. Al was staying at the clinic later than usual, saying that he had a lot of paperwork to do. There had been a couple of times where she had called the clinic late at night, when Al was supposedly there but, all she got was the answering machine.
And there had been last night. Al had said he was going to the hospital in Canyon Falls to see one of his patients. At one in the morning, when he still had not returned home, Nancy called the hospital. She was told that Al had been there but, had only been there a short time and had left quite a few hours ago. When he got home around three, Nancy had pretended to be asleep but, after he fell asleep, she had gotten up and gone into the bathroom. Opening the hamper, she pulled out the t-shirt he had been wearing and saw a slight trace of what appeared to be lipstick on it. Putting it up to her nose, she could smell perfume, and it wasn't the same as she used.
Now, gazing out the window, Nancy was fairly well convinced that the rumors of her husband infidelities were quite possibly true. What to do about it however, was another matter. She felt she needed more proof before she could actually confront him about it and that meant she would probably have to catch him in the act. As she sat there weighing her options, she finally came to the conclusion that she had three options.
1. Ignore it and hope that it wasn't true. She knew that she wasn't going to do that.
2. Wait until the next time Al said he would be working late at the clinic, go to the clinic and see if she can catch him in the act. She knew where he kept the spare keys to the clinic so getting inside would not be a problem.
3, Assume that the rumors are true and utilize the old saying of "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" to pay him back with a vengeance. Al had been neglecting his "duties" as a husband anyhow, and this just provided her with an opportunity to do a few things she had fantasized about for a long time.
Lastly, if she choose option 2 and she caught Al in the act, she could go to option 3 without any reservations or guilt whatsoever. And if she chose the third option and Al found out about it, she could use his infidelity as justification for her actions.
What will she do????
