Chapter #6

Wait, I'm not finished!

You hear footsteps outside your door.

You fumble with the cotter pin, frantically trying to line it up and pound it in place. If you can’t get the twisted chuck of iron attached to the chain, this weapon will be useless. You hear the latch slide as you start pounding on the pin. All too soon, the swings open. There are two figures in the doorway, one is a mindflayer and the other is a troll.

“AAAARGH” You roar as you realize that you are outmatched and you have run out of time. You desperately throw the smithing hammer right at the mindflayer’s head. The troll tries to reach out and deflect it, but misses as the hammer flies perfectly toward its target, making a little rapid whooshing sound.

The flying hammer strikes the illithid right in the forehead with a nice loud “thunk”. It staggers back, stunned from your lucky blow, as the hammer falls to the ground.

Troll shrieks and charges at you from the doorway. You heft the flail up, knowing that the pin is barely tapped into place, and hope that it holds. The troll closes the distance in only three bounding steps and you swing the flail.

The troll throws its arm up reflexively and catches the chain near the heavy chunk of iron, which continues with the force of your swing, snapping free of the cotor pin and grazing the back of the troll’s head as it flies across the room and clunks into the far wall. The troll grabs the parried chain with one hand and grabs you beard with the other, pulling you up into the air. You punch, kick, and scream, but it is no use. The troll swings you by your beard and bashes your against the nearby anvil, knocking you silly with blinding pain. The last thing you see is his horrible long festering teeth as he pins you to the anvil and bites into the side of your neck. The last thing you feel is intense pain, and then everything fades.

You are dead. Feel free to go back and try another path, since thankfully, this is only a story.

THE END.

You've come to the end of the story. You can:
