You've been watching the cables, trying to see some sort of pattern to their momentary blackouts. Sometimes they go dark only for a second, and sometimes they go dark for several minutes. So far, you have seen no discernable pattern, but you're getting desperate.
The last task you were given was to scrape some rust and corrosion off of one of the cables where it connected to a cylinder that hung from the cavern ceiling. The cable was dark while you scraped at the corrosion, but the drider was standing next to you the entire time and jabbing at you with the tip of his razor sharp glaive and pushing you to hurry. Between the painful cuts from the drider and the stress of the thinking cable might light up again, since you didn't know for sure that they shut it down just for you, you were at the end of your rope. When you finally finished, the cable crackled with energy half a second after you backed away. The drider gave you one more painful jab for spite and crawled back into the darkness.
You've decided to gamble on the cables, thinking death can't be much worse that this torturous existence anyway. You sit staring a nearby crackling cable, watching it sputter. It goes dark a couple of times for only a second. When it goes dark again, you hope it might be due for a longer blackout and you make your move...
