Chapter #6

Messing with a son of a Witch!

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
After you awaken from your magic induced nap, you find your mother waiting for you to wake up. You looked at your clock, it was nearing twelve noon.

"I'm glad to see you awake, John." she said. "I'm sorry I had to knock you out for six hours but it was necessary to stabilize both your body and mind." she paused. "I have to admit, your new power scares even me, a little."

You swallowed hard but did not say anything as your mother then explained everything she had told your sisters about who and what you had become.

"So... my new purpose in life is to fight vampires, zombies, and any other threats to the family?" you asked.

Your mother nodded and you frowned. Only inside, you were thinking, "COOL!"

"Witches can not fight male vampires directly, John." said your mother. "They have a demonic power that allows them to hypnotize us into submission, despite our magic power. However, that hypnotic power does not work on a warlock." she paused. "That is one advantage you have over us."

"What about girl vampires?" you asked.

"Girl vampires have no demonic power, as all of them were 'turned' by male vampires. However, they carry a certain charm and false beauty that could seduce a warlock. They are also incredibly strong and fast." replied your mother. "But witches are immune to that charm, we can deal with them."

"An even field." you said.

"Yes." replied your mother.

She then handed you a large book. "This is for you, John." she said. "It will explain everything else you need to know. Use your powers wisely."

With that, she left your room as you watched her, uncertain. After she left, however, you eagerly opened the book and began to carefully read.

"This is just too cool!" you thought, out loud.

Outside your door, your mother sighed. "I hope your power is never needed, John." she thought. "Jack had very strong powers as well. Still, as powerful as he was, he fell in battle."

Your mother shed a single tear, thinking of her brother. He had fallen to Vlad Tepees, the head vampire, during the last witch war, fifteen years ago. Your mother had sworn revenge but, as tempting as it was, with the power you possessed, she did not wish to ask it of you. She covered her mouth, to silence a sob, then quickly walked away from your door to cry inside her bedroom. She feared that history would ultimately repeat.

You studied the book, until supper that night. You discovered that the witch in charge of your care, namely mom, was responsible for how much of your power was to be unleashed at any given time as the power was too great for any one person to control on their own. You also found that you an unleash the power yourself to an extent but the book suggested extreme caution when doing so.

"How are you doing on your studies, John?" asked Hayley, during supper. "Learn anything new?"

"A few things." you replied, guessing that mom told her about the book she gave you.

"Which studies?" asked Hannah.

"Just school, Hannah." you replied, simply.

You had been told that Hannah was too young to even know about magic yet and that you should not mention that you or your older sisters had powers until she expressed power of her own. Only, as young as she was, hannah was very smart and knew when you were hiding something...

"Okay, John!" she snapped. "What are you hiding!?!"

You turned to Hannah, annoyed. "I have no idea what your talking about." you said, holding your power down. you pointed to her plate. "Your food is getting cold."

Hannah began to turn red, she knew when she was being conned and she did not like it.

"Oh, come on!" she yelled, tearing up. "Everyone knows something but me!" she stood up, ready to run off. "It's not fair! I'm part of this family too!"

You turned to your mother. "She has a point." you told her. "Since everyone else knows..."

Your mother sighed. "Very well." she said. "Hannah, sit down and I will explain everything to you."

Hannah folded her arms. "I'll stand, thank you." she said, crossly.

Your mother mother was not in the mood to be talked back to but, instead of using her magic, she turned to you and nodded. You then nodded back and turned to Hannah before summoning your new, powerful voice.

"SIT DOWN, HANNAH!!!!"

Hannah let out a startled scream as your voice shook the entire house and immediately sat down, shaking.

"I am sorry, Hannah." you told her, in your normal voice. "It is very important that you listen to mom carefully."

Hannah nodded but did not dare speak. You could tell that she was now very afraid of you.

"John will not hurt you, Hannah, do not be afraid." your mother said. "I told him to do that to make you listen."

"O... Okay." replied Hannah, still shaken. "I... I'm... (gulp!)... listening!"

Your mother explained everything to Hannah and demonstrated her power by lightly zapping her. Hannah was shocked but she quickly promised to keep the family secret safe.

"Now that we have that issue out of the way." said your mother, smiling. "Who is ready for ice cream?"

Later, near midnight that evening, you woke up to a soft cry. Only, with your powerful hearing, you knew it immediately as Hannah's scream. You jumped out of bed and hurried to her room to find Hannah huddled in a corner with a tall, dark man standing over her.

"So young you are." the man said, quietly. "Sadly, you will not be able to work magic for some time." he smiled as Hannah whimpered in the corner, completely terrified. "Show some pride, girl. You are the daughter of a witch."

He moved to take a step closer as Hannah was powerless to move under his hypnotic stare.

Then, suddenly, you appeared between him and Hannah, your face hardened with anger. "Now, you're messing with a son of a witch!"

You tackled the strange man with all of the power you were allowed to give yourself and a fight ensued that shook the entire house as it spilled out of Hannah's room, into the hall. The strange man was nearly as strong as you were but you managed to pin him down as Mom, Hayley, and Mel came rushing out of their bedrooms to see what was happening. Mom looked at the man you had pinned and scowled.

"Vampire." she said, softly.

Mel and Hayley turned to your mother, startled then turned back to the intruder as your mother spoke to him.

"My son, if you had not noticed, is a warlock." she said. "I have not unleashed any of his true power yet. ake that into account and leave while you still can!"

The vampire, not having any other choice, nodded. Your mother then told you to let the creature go. You did so and he was gone.

"Hannah is in her room." you said. "She's fine but badly shaken."

Mel ran off to check up on her while Hayley hurried to the bathroom and quickly returned with a medical kit.

"Let me check you out, John." she said. "You might have been hurt."

You nodded, taking off your night shirt while your mother grabbed a telephone. "I thought there was supposed to be a cease fire between us!?!" she raged.

Minutes later, Hayley finished touching up your wounds, due to minor scrapes and cuts as your mother finally placed the telephone down.

"Did you find out what that was all about?" asked Hayley, concerned.

She nodded. "I just got a hold of the witch council." she said. "That vampire was...
