The program first caught Daniel's eye as a study abroad program they paid you to join, and you didn't already have to be in college to get in. He wasn't quite sure what had possessed him to apply, or why he had gotten in. All he knew at this point was that the program was about exploring France and French cuisine. It seemed weird that they recommended only packing a week's worth of clothes when he'd be there for nine months, but he guessed they'd provide clothing or something.
When the limo picked him up at his house, and took him to a private chartered jet, however, Daniel decided that he probably should have read the full 10-page packet they sent him after he applied.
'What have I gotten myself into?' he thought as he boarded the jet. The jet was lavishly decorated, but there was only a pilot on it.
"The flight should take about 9 hours. There is a selection of movies available through the view screen in front of you, but I honestly recommend sleeping."
The trip is very uneventful, and Daniel does fall asleep on the way there. When he wakes up, they're still over the ocean, but land is in sight. Daniel doesn't pay much attention to this, though because he's starving. He didn't eat before the trip, assuming there'd be food on the plane. Using the intercom, he calls to the pilot.
"Is there any food on the plane? I'm starved."
"Sorry, Mr. Leonard's orders. He doesn't want you spoiling your appetite before the welcome feast. Believe me, it's worth the wait. We'll be there in a couple hours."
By the time they land, Daniel is ravenous. He doesn't remember ever having been this hungry. They get in the limo and his stomach growls, but all the limo has is bottled water. He drinks it, which helps a little. The water...
