Admit you have nothing

    by: Unknown
“Well?”

Your captor is growing increasingly impatient with your attempts to stall. She threatens you with her spear once more, but perhaps you can plead a more convincing case if you simply tell the truth.

“I haven’t found anything yet, my Lady. You can threaten me all you like, but you clocked me before I could even begin to look.” You try to sound as forceful as you can, but being shirtless and bound to dungeon shackles doesn’t exactly lend a lot of strength to your voice.

Your nameless captor sighs, and takes her spear away from your chest. The feathered trophies dangling from the tip brush against your toes, and you try your best to stifle a laugh. It would not be prudent to let slip a weakness of yours in this state.

“You know what? I believe you,” she states sadly. She looks to your stolen garments, tossed haphazardly onto the dungeon floor. “From your shoddy clothing, I didn’t think you were very talented at finding treasure. And a shapeshifter would never pick a face so... cute.” She looked to you with what you could only describe as hunger.

“My Lady?” you ask, not liking her tone very much.

“Do you know the history of these walls?” she continued, glancing about the dungeon and the horrible contraptions strewn all around. “They say that the Dormduo people were hedonists and gluttons. They constantly sought pleasure - fashioning their very society to fulfill their basest needs. When these were satisfied, they sought even more extreme measures to gratify themselves. No songs are sung of the Dormduo; and for good reason. They were ravenous beasts, feasting on all that was good and pure in the world. In the end, it is said, they became so slothful that even their slaves were fat.”

You nod your head, not sure where this woman was going.

She removed her plated gauntlets, revealing long slender fingers. “They infuriated the gods with their actions – it is said that no mere mortal should experience the joys meant for the divine.” Your captor placed her gauntlets on the dungeon floor, and carefully picked one of the feathers out of her spearhead. “So they cast down a mighty fireball, and incinerated all who dwelled within these halls.”

Your captor stood silently for a moment, her blue eyes sparkling with the flames of the torch nearby.

“I was fortunate that day, my little prisoner.” Your captor smiled broadly at you.

“What?” You sputter, your stomach churning with a new fear. “That day? But that was hundreds of years ago!”

Your captor nods, and crouches down in front of your feet. You tense them, trying to pull away, but the stocks are secure. You can feel her breath on your trapped soles.

“Lucky for you, I was away when the gods slew my people.”

What happens next?

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Struggle harder and try to escape

2. Try to talk you way out of this

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
