You wake up to the sound of the alarm. You close your eyes wishing that you hadn't have made it through the night. "Why couldn't I have just dies in my sleep", you think to yourself? After a few minutes you get up and start the morning routine. You shower, shave, and get dressed. As usual Carrie, your wife has made you a cup of coffee and a bagel. The TV is on in the kitchen with the news on. It's the same thing every day. Carrie, true to routine makes the same comment as a news plays out, "What is the world coming to?" She then finishes with a comment about the top story of the day. You tune most of it out. You take the last sip of the first coffee of your day and leave one bite of the bagel sitting on your plate. This is your life, every day. You'll stop on the way to work at your favorite coffee shop and grab cappuccino and a either a donut, or muffin to go with the muffin slash donut around your mid-section. As usual you make a promise to yourself to start going back to the gym as you readjust your belt. As usual you will break this promise. "What's the use? The best part of my life is over and now I'm just waiting for the grim reaper", you mutter walking up to the office building you work in. You go through the elaborate security and then up 70 floors to your office. You have a great view and your own secretary that you don't have to share with anyone else. One of the few benefits of experience that comes with age. You sigh as you remember when you just started with the company. The joy of getting your hands metaphorically dirty. You actually did the work that you now direct other people to direct to do. It was fun back then actually making the breakthroughs. You sigh and shake your head as you look out your window. As you have done several times in the past decade you quickly do the math on how long it would take for you to reach the ground if you jumped from this height. You ponder if you should go head first, feet first, you do a belly flop. You never would do any of these.
