I didn’t have to go far before I found Laura’s tormenter. She was hiding behind the corner of a house, watching Laura as the giantess wailed miserably. She turned her attention to me as she heard me come up and smirked.
“Alright, kid, fun’s over,” I said, trying my best to be authoritative while standing in the snow in my pajamas. It helped that the girl was shorter than me. She was probably Laura’s age- 16 or so- and I had several inches on her. “Hand over the remote.”
“Are you kidding?” the scout said. “This is great! She’s already destroyed two houses! I wonder when the army’s gonna show up!”
I shook my head, appalled. “Christ, kid. That girl’s life is ruined! And one of those houses was mine. And it’s only going to get worse if we don’t shrink Laura. She already probably killed a guy and is well on her way to destroying the neighborhood and she’s not even trying. What’s going to happen if she gets pissed off?!”
I saw doubt flicker in the scout’s eyes, but she dispelled it with a shake of her head. “No way! Laura’s way too much of a goody-two-shoes to do anything but cry about turning into a giant freak. In fact,” the scout raised the remote. “I don’t think she’s big enough yet.”
