Chapter #9Time's influence spans all beings, even the old. by: Thornton   I nod. I walk with them to a white van, ready to go.
"Boy, we'll need to take your weapons. Planet wide law." The officer states.
"Sorry bear sir, but I can't allow you to do that. They're bonded to my skin and bone. Removing them would kill my arms. But don't worry, they're in safety mode now. Just don't try to pull a fast one. Oh, and wolf guy, behind me?! Please be careful with my belongings, they're my personal property. Thank you." I say as a cop carries the items to me.
We hop in and drive. The scenery is lovely, trees and marvelous plains all around. We eventually arrive at our destination, an advanced research facility. We get out and go in. Te inside is white, tiles and a receptionist desk before me. With a swipe of a card, we pass. I'm allowed, even though I'm just 14. Different rules I guess. We arrive at a corridor with gas masks by the entrance door.
"Okay, put these on. We'll be passing by a test on deadly plants that release a lethal airborne toxin. Now, follow me." A mare scientist tells us.
I grab one. We creep into the hall. I look to my right and see the plant, the main bulb skull shaped. However upon closer analysis I realize something. "The strain!" I yell. I rip off the gas mask and run to the lab area. I breathe in the gas. Delicious smelling as always.
"Ahh, the flower fruit strain. Man I missed these things. I can't created my creation hitched a ride and evolved here. Bottoms up!" I exclaim as popping of a bulb into my mouth.
A tart, splendid taste. Everyone gasps. I lick my chops with my tongue.
"Kid, what're you doing?!? That should kill you!" A canine lab assistant yells.
"No no no, you have it all wrong! I created this strain of flowers in my lab as a fruit producing flower that could grow anywhere, especially when the soil is rich in death. The time I spent in the comet adapted my natural resistance to environmental toxins to a high degree. Since ancient humans like myself lived on a poison Earth, I have a natural resistance to toxins that have now evolved to an immunity. So, where to next?" I ask.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
