Chapter #7

Several good reasons to hate gym class (even more)

The duo exited the library and made their way down the hallway without incident. When they came to the door they checked the window to make sure it was clear. No zombies, not even any blood. Frank motioned for Betty to follow behind him as he opened the door quietly and walked inside. The hallway passed over the gym and cafeteria and led to a door that would take the both of them to the top of the bleachers inside the gym. Once they were there they could walk down to the door and take another hallway to the exit. It would be easy, hopefully. When they were about hallway through the hall Frank decided to look out one of the windows that overlooked the cafeteria and asked Betty to check a window overlooking the gym. After surveying the cafeteria below him for a few seconds Frank noticed some zombies near one of the folding tables, two level ones and some naked teenager with no head, clearly a Mimic. "Like that's going to fool anyone..." Frank said as he turned towards Betty. "How are things on your side?" She didn't answer. When he walked over and looked out the window himself he saw why. The entire gym looked like the killing floor of a meat processing plant. Bodies (and body parts) were laying all across the floor, some in piles and some by themselves. Blood red may as well have been the new school color as it was covering the floor and walls like a fresh coat of paint. This was all topped off with several level two's, a few level ones and worst of all, a nest of Vampires who were eagerly "cleaning up" the blood that had stained the massive room so throughly. "Jesus..." Betty whispered once she was able to speak again. Frank put a hand on her shoulder and turned her away. "We should get going..." He said as they moved forward. Soon they came to the door that led to bleachers inside the gym. "I don't think those zombies will just let us out of here, we'll need to fight at least a dozen or so of them." Frank said as he took out a another handgun. "You should keep that survival knife in your pocket unless you absolutely need it. Use this instead, it'll be better if you use long-range weapons." Betty took the second handgun and gave her uncle a confused look. "Wait, if I use both of your handguns what will you use?" Frank just smiled and held up his bat. "I have more then just two handguns, but I'd like to use this and it requires both my hands to use it to maximum effect." Still confused, Betty asked Frank another question. "But didn't you say long range would be better?" Betty said as she held up her two handguns. "Yeah, but one of us needs to do melee in case they get too close and you need to learn how to use a gun, plus I'm stronger then you so I'll be able to use this bat better." Frank replied. Betty did need to learn to use a gun, but the real reason Frank wanted to cover the melee angle was for Betty's safety. He would have to be a lot closer to the zombies and didn't want to put Betty in that kind of danger. "Alright, I'm ready uncle Frank!" Betty said as Frank put a hand on the door. "Good, just remember to only fire when you have a clear shot and be careful not to slip in the puddles of blood. Now lets Go!" Frank yelled as he slung the door open.
