Your name is Sandy Richards, a girl from Anytown Pennsylvania who has unfortunately just turned 16. Unfortunately because law states that it's illegal to consume anyone 15 or under... and you have never been able to swallow people.
You don't know your family at all, adopted from 3 years old and first staying with your adoptive parents... until they were eaten one boistrous new years celebration when you were 11. From then you've been in several foster homes, one or two of your 'parents' threatening to eat you despite the law. It's not been pretty. People have always looked down at you because of your inability to consume others. In pretty much every foster home you've been in your 'siblings' were people to shy away from. Kids don't often want to follow the letter of the law.
Just once one of your sisters DID eat you when you were fourteen, though thankfully your father at the time saw your feet going down and spent the next hour trying to get her to cough you up. He did succeed thank goodness, but the whole thing was quite an experience! A surprisingly erotic experience at that, not that you really want to try it again.
Families here tend to be huge, presumably to compensate for the fact that most people don't last beyond 30 without getting eaten. Having twenty children is not uncommon, and ending up with several kids that eat each other is also not uncommon... laws or not. You're frankly lucky to have survived given your disadvantage.
Right now you're on your own, having fled your last foster family several months before your 16th birthday... just in case. Technically you aren't of age till you're 18 so right now you'll have to lie about your age if you want to get a job and stay out of someone's belly!
Well, here you are. Out in a little town on the edge of Pennsylvania just having got yourself an apartment. Now you have to find somewhere safe to work.
