Chapter #3

Walk around

    by: Unknown Author IconMail Icon
I continued to wander aimlessly through the small American town, my tiny feet clicking softly against the sidewalk in my little black pumps. The air was warm, and the town had a quaint, almost nostalgic feel to it. People went about their day, oblivious to the fact that a being of unimaginable power was walking among them, disguised as an innocent five-year-old girl. I couldn’t help but giggle to myself at the thought.

As I turned a corner, I spotted two teenage boys sitting on a bench near a park. They were deep in conversation, their voices carrying just enough for me to hear. One of them, a lanky boy with messy brown hair and a baseball cap, sighed heavily.

“I just wish I could understand her, you know?” he said, leaning back on the bench. “Like, sometimes I feel like my girlfriend is speaking a completely different language. I don’t get why she gets so upset over little things.”

The other boy, slightly shorter with blond hair and a hoodie, nodded in agreement. “Dude, same. My older sister is like that too. She’s always giving me these looks like I’m the dumbest person on the planet. I wish I could understand what’s going on in her head sometimes.”

I tilted my head, my ponytail swaying as I observed them. "How interesting," I thought. "Two boys, both struggling to understand the women in their lives. What a perfect opportunity for a little experiment."

With a mischievous smile, I raised my hand ever so slightly, and with a mere thought, I granted their wishes. The air around them shimmered faintly, almost imperceptibly, and in an instant, the two boys were no longer boys. They were now two teenage girls, sitting on the same bench, their conversation uninterrupted.

The first girl, now with long, wavy brown hair and wearing a cute summer dress, continued speaking as if nothing had happened. “I mean, I get it now,” she said, her voice softer and more melodic. “When my girlfriend gets upset, it’s usually because she’s feeling overwhelmed. I can see it in her eyes, you know? It’s like, she just needs someone to listen, not to fix everything.”

The second girl, her blond hair tied back in a ponytail and wearing a stylish hoodie and jeans, nodded enthusiastically. “Totally! My older sister is the same way. She’s not trying to be mean or anything—she’s just stressed out with work and school. I can totally relate now. It’s like, I get why she’s always on my case about cleaning my room. She just wants things to be calm, you know?”

They both laughed, their voices light and carefree. Everything about them had changed—their memories, their experiences, even their wardrobes and belongings had seamlessly adjusted to their new identities. To anyone passing by, they had always been these two girls, best friends chatting on a bench in the park.

I watched them for a moment longer, my hands clasped behind my back. They were so absorbed in their conversation that they didn’t even notice the little girl standing nearby, observing them with a knowing smile.

"This is going to be fun" I thought to myself as I turned and continued my stroll through the town, my mind already racing with ideas for my next experiment.

You have the following choices:

1. A wedding was held nearby

2. Use public transportation and experiment with people there

3. something else
