"Bye sis!"
David ran out of the car with his backpack straps lopsided on his shoulders, a wide grin plastered on his face. As he reached the double doors to the school, he took in a deep breath, and was ready to face the day by the time he pushed open the doors. The seventeen year old was halfway through his senior year, and nothing was going to get in his way.
"Good morning David!" the principal greeted as he went to his locker.
"Morning Mr. Gershowitz!" He responded.
The teen quickly flipped through his combination before flinging the locker door open. Today was his easy day, which meant he could go home early.
"Sweet!" He said to himself when he realized this.
"What's up David?"
David turned around and bumped into his friend Jack. Jack was about 6'2, four inches taller than David, but was much skinnier. His maroon skin gleamed in the hallway's fluorescent light, and as David turned around Jack put his calloused hand on his shoulder.
"Ready for gym class, my guy?" He asked with a wink.
"You know I am!" He replied, "See you at the bleachers?"
"Of course!"
As David waved goodbye to his friend, he decided to roam around the halls of the second and third floors, since he had a bit of time left before the bell rang.
He jogged up the stairs and began browsing through the second floor. As he walked around, he'd wave and greet anyone who caught his eye. And, of course, being the guy that he was, everyone would greet him back. He even caught a few girls blushing as he walked by them, which gave his confidence even more of a boost.
By the time he went to the third floor, he was greeting more of the underclassmen, but that didn't seem to stop him. In fact, a lot of his friends like Jake were also underclassmen - their ages didn't matter so much to him.
As he wrapped up his journey on the third floor, he heard a conversation coming from some freshman that piqued his interest.
"Did you hear about what's happening on the fourth floor?"
David paused. We don't have a fourth floor, he thought to himself. He kept listening.
"Yeah, I have. Apparently there's a pool and everything."
"What's a fourth flo-"
"Shhh!"
The huddle of underclassmen started whispering. If there was a fourth floor, these guys sure did believe it existed.
David went closer to their huddle.
"How do you reach the fourth floor?"
The freshmen jumped as David gave them a friendly smile.
"Err, well..." This one girl, Amy, stammered, "Apparently you need one of the elevator keys to get to it..."
Amy turned pink as David patted her on her shoulder.
"Thanks!"
A boy in the circle pitched in, "We think it's a new STEM lab, but don't tell anyone! I don't think it'll be ready 'til next year!"
"Will do, Brad. Thanks!"
The warning bell rang overhead.
"Welp, that's my cue! Bye guys!"
"Bye David!"
