The boy watches where he steps, stopping just before the line marking the roc's reach. The Roc is staring down at him, waiting for him to take the next step. But Felix just stood there, not wanting to get into the range of this giant monster.
"Hurry up!" a guard shouts from behind. The boy turns around, and the roc takes her chance.
With a screech, she lunges forward, her beak open and head tilted sideways. In an instant, the two halves of her beak are on either side of the human's body. Before he has a chance to react, the roc bites down, gently, and lifts the boy off the ground easily!
Felix doesn't even scream as the roc grabs him. He's too shocked at what just happened. Apparently, the roc's reach was longer than the line! The roc straightens her head so that Felix is now held parallel to the ground. The boy looks towards the door, and sees the two guards standing there, weapons ready.
"It grabbed him!" one shouts. "Let's get in there and stop it!"
The roc suddenly drops the boy from her beak, and he lands on the ground painfully. He's only lain there a moment, though, before the roc lifts up a talon and slams it down onto his body, making him shout in pain. The giant bird slowly curls her claws around his body, lifting him off the ground and holding him close to her body. The roc then opens her mouth and roars loudly at the guards, making them run away and slam the door shut.
With the guards gone, the roc still doesn't release her grip on the boy. She instead raises her leg towards her face, angling her talon so she can see the boy's face clearly. The small human gazes up at her, his eyes wide with fear....
