Many many years later...

         A long time after the clam devoured Samus it was suddenly jolted from its hold on the seabed and dragged to the surface.
         The crew of the commercial fishing ship laughed sheer amazement at their latest catch. None of them had ever seen a clam that big before. Curious to see what it looked like inside, they cut open its shell. If they were amazed before, they were stupefied now; they and some of the galaxy's brightest minds for the next several centuries. No one, not even the many museums where it was displayed could give even a suggestion as to how a pearl could form into a life-sized statue of a weeping, naked woman in the fetal position so detailed you could see her tears.
         No one ever solved the mystery of the Pearl Lady, as she came to be known. All they could do was gaze at her breathtaking beauty and her heartrending expression of sorrow, and wonder...
