Rise's Path - Beginning

    by: MinakoTenFour Author IconMail Icon
"Now where are you hiding...?" Rise breathed, scouring what appeared to be an empty bedroom as if she hoped one of her friends might materialize on cue.

When she had suggested they play a more 'adult' game to liven up their girls' night at the Amagi Inn, she had expected to have an easier time of things than this. The game, as she had explained to little Nanako and three noticeably-flustered trio of other girls, was the same as Hide and Seek, but with one twist: For every five minutes the seeker is unable to find anyone, she must remove an article of clothing. After a few minutes of squabbling over whether or not socks counted as a single item (they totally didn't, and she had their resident detective and her masterful debating skills to thank for that), they all finally agreed, with the added condition that anyone who remains hidden is allowed to put all of their clothes back on, assuming they are able to hide for ten full minutes, and anyone who was found would switch places with the seeker. The previous seeker would then be given one minute to find a hiding spot. Hiding players could move about as they pleased, but if the seeker caught sight of them, they were caught, no questions asked. The players could hide anywhere in the inn, with the exception of the adjoining onsen.

Despite her initial uneasiness, even Yukiko had to agree with terms like those, and within minutes she had set a recurring alarm - a loud, low bell chime made by a large digital clock - to go off every five minutes, which could be heard from anywhere in the Inn, at least according to the Amagi heiress. It wasn't a perfect system, but it was likely the best they were going to be able to manage on such short notice. By the time they had all set off to hide, Rise had to admit that she had felt almost giddy at the prospect of what they were about to do. While no stranger to wearing very little in front of others, or even in front of a crowd, the added stakes still made for an exciting twist. Even little Nanako had agreed to play, her cheeks flushed as the implications of their game only half-registering in her seven-year-old brain. Rise almost wished Souji were playing as well, as she still had yet to get a straight answer out of her grey-haired senior when it came to what he thought of her during the previous day's swimsuit competition...

As part of the negotiation for the others' participation, Rise had volunteered to go first. It had seemed easy enough, after all - Naoto may have been all-but-guaranteed to choose the perfect hiding place, but Chie and Yukiko were not exactly known for their finesse or subtlety, and as smart as Nanako was for her age, she was just a child. How creative could any of their hiding spots truly be? The answer, unfortunately, turned out to be quite different than the red-headed starlet had expected. Now two and a half minutes into her search, and she hadn't found a single trace of any of them. All the girls had removed their shoes when they'd arrived, but Rise seemed to be on the path to losing another article as well.

"Using my Persona would be cheating." Rise reminded herself, staving off the small, nagging temptation. She wasn't about to cheat her friends, though, no matter how badly she wanted to win. Besides, she was fairly certain she had just figured out what she needed to do next...
