The sargeant dismounts and finds Marlin facing him in the stables. "Why the sudden interest in my patrol?" he asks curiously.
Marlin ignores his question, and tries to find out where the patrol's horses are, without mentioning specifically the king in the form of a mare.
The sargeant tells him that the original horses were left at the keep to recover from the long ride. Marlin makes up a quick lie about leaving something in a saddle and looks around the stable for a fresh horse. He doesn't like the idea of the king being trapped for too long, nor the mood he will be in when he recovers his human form.
The stable boy finds a fresh horse for Marlin, who quickly has it prepared and mounts up. He rides off to the keep to find the king and administer the antidote potion.
Meanwhile, at the keep the king has grown bored, and is looking around the stable for something to do. The task proves too much for him, as the potion has made him fit in rather too well, as a horse and reduced his great intellect down to something more equine. He is sure, or at least hopes that his mind will return to normal too when his body does.
The stable girl at the keep fills the trough for all the horses, and talks kindly to each animal. The king enjoys the sound of her voice, but is terrified when he realises that he didn't understand what she had said, listening only to the gentle sound of her voice. Her calming hands settled her twitching, once the girl noticed how agitated the mare had become.
