You would've expected an isle full of ghost costumes to be boring, right? Wrong.
Instead of just plain white sheets, the racks were filled with bright neon outfits and necklaces that looked like 60's stuff. Each one had a different symbol on them, like Chinese or something. There were hangers with real night-vision goggles and some kind of glove that looked like the stuff you make magnets with.
Amazed, I walked slowly down the isle, picking up a pair of night-vision goggles and a pair of gloves. Then I walked over to the brightly colored jumpsuits. An eye-catching green one caught my eye, and I took it off the rack, holding it with one arm as I walked a little more down the isle. Next came the necklaces. They were made of thick, glass gold and silver beads, with blood red string to hold it all together. As I took one, I wondered how all this could possibly be a ghost costume.
I walked back to the man at the front desk. He was sitting behind it, reading a fashion magazine. I asked him if I could try the stuff on.
"Sure," he said. "Changing rooms over there," he pointed to the back of the shop.
Still slightly stunned by all the brightness, I walked to the back where he'd pointed and opened the changing room door. When I was inside, I slid the lock in, then started trying the stuff on.
I started with the jumpsuit. It was difficult getting into it, since I was so used to the normal shorts and T-shirt outfit, but I managed. After I pulled my sneakers back on, I pulled the night-vision goggles over my head. It was like tunnel vision, and I didn't see how these things would help me see in the dark, but I just shrugged and started pulling on the magnet-like gloves.
