Chapter #5Little Card Player by: Lelouch (Before I begin please know that I intend on using the japanese character names. But since I don't know them I'll be using american dub names for things such as the cards or places.)
"Alright Red-Eyes....attack directly and finish this!" Shouted Junoichi, a spunky youth currently in a card shop run by his best friend Yugi's grandfather. Urging for a challenge Junoichi had challenged his best friend Yugi to a game of Duel Monster's, and with his signature card the Red-Eyes Black Dragon he was going to win...or so he thought.
Yugi was calm and collected, and with a faint smirk on his lips he flipped over a trap card to counter Junoichi's attack. "Magic Cylinder, your attack is redirected at your Life Points. You lose Junoichi." In an overzealous manner Junoichi fell off his seat in utter dismay, "Damn! And here I thought I was gonna beat ya Yugi!"
A light came from the pyramid necklace donned at Yugi's neck and in some miraculous circumstance he grew shorter, less refined and bold looking, and more or less resembled a child. It was the transformation he made when he dueled and when he didn't. This younger, more innocent person extended a hand towards Junoichi, "It was a close game man; don't worry. You'll get me next time."
From the side came the duo's two closest friends Anzu and Honda, neither showing much surprise at Yugi's victory. "Really Yugi? Cause by my count Junoichi's lost over 50 times!" Honda laughed.
"55, but who's counting?" Anzu smirked.
Junoichi leapt to his feet, "Oh yeah wise guys!? You guys wanna duel me?" Before a reply came Yugi stepped in, "Slow down guys, let's just calm down before we make Grandpa upset with all the noise."
Junoichi gritted his teeth, "Ah forget it!" He screamed as he angrily stomped out of the Mutoh Game Shop. Behind him he could faintly see his friends obviously dumbfounded by his anger. Without batting an eye he turned and started walking down the street in some random direction. It wasn't their fault he was upset, he knew this. For ages now Junoichi had been...anxious. The Battle City tournament had just ended and while he placed in the top four Junoichi couldn't help but feel...inferior to his friend Yugi, who won the tournament, and Seto Kaiba who placed above him as well. The three were considered the best three duelists of the age, with Junoichi being considered the weakest. It was an honor to be considered among the best, that was for sure; but just once...Junoichi wanted a taste of being on top. Even if it was just by beating Yugi in a single unofficial game where they didn't even use Duel Disks. It had yet to happen though, and to be honest...Junoichi was beginning to lose hope. Even Kaiba, who was considered Second Best, Junoichi had yet to beat even once. It was just...tiring after a while.
"Meh...now I know why Kaiba is so obsessed with beating Yugi..." Junoichi groaned. He had stormed his way right into a large commercial district of Domino City. With a glimmer of regret in his expression he looked back, "Maybe I should apologize..."
A voice came from behind, "You seek power...correct?"
It took a moment for Junoichi to realize he was being addressed, once he did find out though he walked into the alleyway the voice came from. There stood a hooded man, and in Junoichi's experience hooded men were never good. "What do you want? Yugi's Puzzle, my Red-Eyes, The God Cards?"
The hooded figure, a man, laughed, "Certainly not, I have no interest in those trivial things. I simply like to help those I find... interesting. I understand you wish to know what it's like to be the best?"
No matter how hard he tried Junoichi couldn't hide his shock at the man's knowledge, "Maybe...what of it?"
The man's hand revealed itself from his sleeve, wielding a card. "This card will help you in that goal."
Junoichi accepted the card from the man, and looked at it. A pitch black design with a pair of demonic red eyes in the darkness, a spell card. " The Beast of Burden ....huh...never heard of this card before....huh!? There isn't an effect for this thing!" He nearly grabbed the hooded man, "You trying to play me!?"
The man just kept chuckling, "No no no...not at all. That card...is rather unique. For you see, it acts sort of like the God Cards do. In that it chooses its wielder. If you are chosen, the card will reveal itself. If not, The Beast of Burden will be a burden instead of the power you seek."
The man's words were confusing and cryptic but Junoichi caught the gist, "Well...how will I know if it chooses me then?" The man pointed at the Duel Disk Junoichi kept at his wrist whenever possible, "Simply play it as if you were playing a game of Duel Monsters. If you are chosen you will see the effects, if not...well I think you'll know."
Junoichi gave the card another look, "Look man you better not b- huh?" When he looked up, the man was gone. Junoichi sighed, "Probably a prank but worth a shot I guess..." He slid the card into his Duel Disk and waited a moment. Nothing happened, so Junoichi reached for it...but his arms...felt heavy. In fact, his whole body felt heavy...what was going on?! Junoichi collapsed. Within his unconcious mind he saw one and only one thing; the card he attempted to play...like it was mocking him. He tried to reach for it, but as he moved so much as an inch he awoke.
"Ugh...man I really hafta learn not to trust guys in hoods." Junoichi rose to his feet with a slight daze, but something was off... Junoichi looked around, everything seemed...far away...but why? It took a moment but he managed to grasp it, the world was bigger...or in other words...he had shrunken! "Dammit, why does this crap always happen to me?!" The day only got worse though, as a boom came from behind Junoichi; followed by another...and another, footsteps. Junoichi looked behind him and saw...a tower of a person. A person so big he probably was half the size of their toes...a woman...a beautiful woman at that...and surprisingly enough a woman he knew. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
