Just as Dave was about to use the wand, his eyes wandered to other parts of the gym. A little ways from where Jackie and the other girls were working out, he could see the cardio bunnies running on the treadmills, with some watching whatever program was playing on the overhead TVs, while the others had their iPods blaring, trying to drown out any outside noise as they ran. On the opposite side of the gym, near the front door to be exact, he could see a handful of women doing some kind of circuit training routine, using the pink, 5 pounds dumbells as they each did a set of bench presses, dumbell curls, military presses and lunges, before starting the circuit over again.
Dave then glanced back at Jackie, as she was busy hammering out yet another set of 8000 pound incline presses, gritting her teeth as she fought to get the weight off of her immense chest, while Rachael and Brittany egged her on. Dave sighed. "It's a shame that more women aren't as strong as Jackie," he thought, as he turned around to use the wand on Rachael.
But before he could do so, the wand lit up, firing various beams that hit every person in the gym and caused all the women there to become the same size as Jackie. And, presumably, they were all as strong as her, too. Dave cursed himself, as he realized that he had allowed yet another errant thought to change the world around him without his consent.
Curious, though, he looked back towards the cardio bunnies and realized that most of the treadmills were gone, save for a few that occupied each corner of the gym, all of them unoccupied. The women that were using the treadmills before were now busy performing dumbell curls with 1500 pounds in each arm and grunting loudly, as they struggled to finish their respective sets, before finally dropping the weights, causing a terrible thud to reverberate throughout the gym.
The circuit trainers Dave had seen earlier were still there, only now they were using weight well over a ton to complete their workouts. Even the music playing in the gym had changed. Before, there was light rock of some kind coming through the speakers. Now, it was heavy metal, the music turned up as loud as possible, in order to keep everyone there psyched up for their workouts.
Dave also realized that he was the only guy in the gym now and wondered why that had happened. Maybe the guys who used to go there had their egos crushed to find out that there were women who could lift much more than they ever could. Or maybe this was a women's only gym. Or maybe there was some other reason that Dave hadn't discovered yet about this new reality. I mean, just how different were things now?
He put the wand back in its case again, before walking back towards Jackie and the others as they appeared to be almost finished with their workouts. "Having fun?" he asked.
"Not anymore," Rachael said, as she dabbed the sweat from the back of her neck with a towel. Brittany was busy putting the dumbells back on the racks, while Jackie was sitting on a bench, chugging a protein shake.
"Sorry it took so long," Jackie said between sips. "But you know how it is when we workout. Sometimes it takes us a couple of hours to get finished."
"Don't worry about it," Dave replied, pretending he knew what she was talking about. To him, he had only been in the gym for about 15 minutes, but because of the reality shift, it had apparently been a lot longer. "I'm used to it by now."
"Well, come on, girls," Brittany said, picking up her gym bag and taking a big drink from her water bottle. "We have a full day ahead of us." Jackie and Rachael followed close behind, while Dave brought up the rear. As he was walking, Dave wondered just how different the world was now and as he reached the front door of the gym and made it outside, he had his answer.
