“Professor? Are you in here? Is anyone in here?” May wandered around the empty lab. Its sterilized white walls were off putting with no activity around, yet the place was as messy as you’d expect a busy lab to be. Open text books and papers strewn about, computer monitors still on, it was like everyone vanished into thin air.
“Jeez, this place is dead.” She thought. May briefly considered checking if today really was the day to get her Pokémon. Surely she didn’t get it wrong right? She had been counting down the days and checking for months till it was finally time.
There was even a half full box of doughnuts. She just ate but it would give her something to do until they came back. May munched on a doughnut, then two, then four, eventually all six of the half dozen that were left now lay in her already full belly. “Talk about a big breakfast. Are they really not coming back?”
When she made it to the professors desk she finally got her answer. His notebook to her everything she needed to know. “He went out in the tall grass… again.“ May sighed. How many times was he going to ignore the one piece of advice every Pokémon researcher gave to their protege’s? “His bag is missing at least he has Pokemon to defend him.”
But hold on, that means what was to be her first Pokémon wasn’t in the lab! Now may was pretty peeved. Had he forgotten? It was the most important day of her life! There had to be some, any Pokémon left for her!
Becoming more frustrated as she searched top to bottom for anything she was remotely ball shaped. But just as soon as she was about to give up she caught something in the corner of her eye. It looked like a pokeball but it was red on the top and bottom. It has these strange dents that curved inward around the side. Could you even consider it a ball with that shape?
May reached for it, grabbed it, and gave it a good look. She was here to get her first Pokémon right? She was the one who got to make that choice. Those were the rules. If Birch were to tell her otherwise he would have been here right?
“Well, no point in waiting any longer!” May threw the ball invigorated. A blinding glow filled the dimly lit room, enough that she couldn’t even see what Pokémon she got. As the light faded she could get a better look at her new best friend.
It had a white body with a little nubby arms and legs on stout little body. On its head a yellow star like shape with three pointed angles carrying light blue tag on each. And on its back were yellow little wing like frills.
“Hey little buddy, you and me are partners now! What’s your name?“ The Pokémon looked back at her happily. “Jirachi!” It shouted. “Jirachi? Never heard of a Pokémon called that before…” May glanced back at the desk behind her and found a Pokédex. “Well, this is supposed to be mine too…”
The dex analyzed its target. Jirachi: The Wish PokémonLegend has it that this Pokémon may grant any wish every thousand years for seven days.
“G-grant, w-wis- no that can’t be real…” May was skeptical something like that would be in her presence. It had to be just a rumor. Something people gossiped about when trying to find a rare Pokémon. “W-well… I… wish that box of doughnuts was completely filled…”
Jirachi was happy to oblige. The curved line on it torso opened up to reveal a glowing eye. Sure enough the box of doughnuts had refilled. May was in shock. She slowly grabbed a doughnut and bit into it. “It’s real? All of these are real!?”
May was so ecstatic she would have jumped for joy. Though it seemed she was taking her excitement out on her granted wish. She gobbled up each doughnut after the other, making it a total of eighteen doughnuts in total she ate today on top of the big breakfast she had.
May lay on the floor cradling her aching belly. “Oh, why did I do that… wait.” Suddenly may had an idea. “Jirachi, could I wish my belly was feeling better.” Her new buddy once again glowed bright. Suddenly her belly ache was gone. Her large protruding gut shrank down and was completely fine.
Seven days. Was that all the time she had to get anything she wanted?
So many possibilities. She could use its help to get the the championships sure but why not skip the whole thing and just become champion? She could be the very best right here, right now!
Same for contests, with jirachi’s help she could be one amazing Pokémon coordinator. With all the lights, cameras and crowds she could be like a mega star!
Of course she could see where her life goes after achieving her goals. Not just wishing to be the best but to see what the future held for her after her many victories!
