Andrew was the only Junior who took AP US History. The dog sat in the back left, where he had been assigned, since day one. He tried to pay attention, but his teacher just went over things he had expected his students to read the night before. Andrew was hungry today. He had forgotten his lunch, which his history class had come after, and had his breakfast dissipate. He did, however, sit next to a sophomore who usually had food with him.
All Andrew had to do was remember his name, which finally came to Andrew. "Hey, uh, Nokko," Andrew whispered, "do ya think I could get one of them cookies?" Nokko looked over at him, surprised by the sudden tap on the shoulder. Nevertheless, he took out a pack of Little Debbie's cakes and handed them to Andrew. Andrew nodded appreciatively and opened the cellophane as quietly as he could.
When Andrew had quickly eaten his cakes, Nokko looked over, chuckled, and handed Andrew a bag of chips. Andrew chuckled, and Nokko chuckled in response. Class passed slowly before Andrew could thank the chubby Clydesdale for the food. Nokko smiled and responded, "The chips were from David." Andrew looked at the shorter, but equally wide lion next to Nokko and laughed, thanking David as well.
History was last period because of Andrew's free period from Football. Andrew hated workouts for football, but he liked his off-period more. Andrew was a backup tight end, not a very good one either. Nokko was wondering off when he felt Nokko's tap on the shoulder, "Hey, Andrew, this is from David's Dad, who owns a, well, several gas stations." Andrew was astonished: he held a cold, twenty-ounce Dr.
Pepper, a gift from Nokko, in his hand. Andrew went to the cafeteria and guzzled the thing.
Andrew hated workouts. Andrew noted that the effects from his lunch were wearing off already. He would have to exercise on an empty stomach, he told himself.
Workouts were a chore, but practice was worse. Mitchell, one of Andrew's classmates, whispered on the sidelines, "So, a little bird told me you was takin' food from them little fatass sophomores. That horse and lion." Andrew chuckled but secretly panicked. "I forgot my lunch. They had food; I wanted some; they gave it to me; and so I ate it. So yeah, I did, why?"
Mitchell chuckled and responded, "You might become like them if you keep eaten from 'em." Andrew chuckled, "That's why I got workouts!" Mitchell laughed and took the field.
But after practice, Andrew went to fill up his truck at his usual gas station when he discovered that the pump didn't work. Andrew went to another gas station down the road: closed. Then Andrew saw a truck, in which he recognized Nokko and David near a cavalcade of police cars.
