Chapter #24

Jockular Roleplaying

by: rugal b. Author IconMail Icon
Marc Garner wants to talk to you? Well, sure you guess you're part of this whole thing with him and the other jocks but that's all hush hush and on the down low. Marc approaching you and wanting to talk to you at school feels like something else entirely, like some kind of taboo is being broken. And because it's Marc Garner, you feel that you can't actually turn him down so if he wants to talk then you're going to talk.

"Sure, I'll talk but, uh, it has to be quick because I've got to get to class," you tell him.

"Class? Oh, alright then. I'll let you—"

"Nah, it's cool, we've got a few minutes right?"

He nods and leads you to the outside area between E and G wings where it's a little quieter and a little less trafficked. "So hey," he says looking around, "were you able to get that band finished at all?"

"Yeah, last night," you answer and decide to flip it on him. "Did you try out Kim's mask?"

"A little, it was... something," he says with a small smirk. But it disappears and he looks around again before leaning in. "So remember how I said I was going to use the room with Hannah? Well she, uh, saw the stuff when she came over. Then I kinda told her about it and..." He trails off and chuckles as that small smirk returns.

"Wait, you told her about it!?" you ask in astonishment.

"Dude, like I said it was an accident!" he replies. "I forgot to put the stuff away and when she saw it I didn't have a choice. And then when I told her, she wanted to try it out. The mask, the band, all of it. So... I let her."

"She wanted to," you start. But you pause as realization begins to dawn. "Wait, you guys didn't—! While she was—!"

The smirk turns into a full on grin now. "Fuck man, it was amazing! She had all that stuff so she looked like Kim and acted like Kim. But it wasn't Kim, and we both knew it wasn't, and that just made it even spicier, like we were breaking some taboos. Like we were cheating on each other except not really," He looks like he's damn near about to bust in his shorts. "The crazy part is that when we were finished, Hannah wanted to know if I had more of these things. I didn't tell her about the other masks but I said I was working on something with the guy who found it."

"So that's why you want to talk?"

"Yeah, here," he says as he pulls off his backpack and opens it. He pulls out the bag with the stuff from yesterday. "There's another mask in there too; I swung by Laurent's afterwards and grabbed it. But yeah, Hannah gave me some names so I was wondering if you'd be willing to help me grab one of them for her so we can—"

"Okay, okay, I get it," you cut him off. "So who?" He runs through a handful of them and most you don't recognize or recognize only vaguely with the exception of one. "I've got Stephanie in eighth," you tell him.

"Shit, alright, then we'll go with her if you think you can swing it."

"So what do you want me to do?"

He just shrugs however. "Just tell her that I want to talk to her out by the portables," he tells you. "She's friends with my sisters so she'll probably be willing to. Anyway, I'll catch ya later man."

With that he disappears and you're left to trudge off to English wondering if any of this is even going to work.

"Garner told me you got Kim," Laurent says to you once class ends; you confirm that you did. "You willing to get together with me and some of the guys after school so we can try it out? See what goes on inside the Prez's head?"

At that you freeze up. If they use that band then they'll possibly know what Marc and Hannah did last night. You have no idea if he told Laurent already but if he didn't then you don't think that'd be good, so you demure. "I can't today," you tell him. "Elsie wanted to get together after school and—"

"Ha! Alright, yeah, no problem. You got the mask and that other thing though?"

"I do but I was going to check them out at home tonight," you explain. "See if I can unlock the next spell and figure out what it does. Maybe tomorrow though?"

He nods, says he'll see you tomorrow then and heads off. With Caleb, you head over to join James Lamont, Carson Ioeger and Jenny Ashton for lunch.

"Mother fucker thinks he's hot shit now," Caleb says as everyone eats.

"Who thinks what now?" asks Carson.

"I don't think I'm—" you start before turning to your non-Caleb companions. "Caleb's just pissy because I've been hanging around with Laurent Delacroix and those guys the last week."

"How the fuck are you hanging out with Laurent, Prescott?" Carson asks skeptically.

"It just kind of happened," you say nonchalantly. "They even took me out to the Warehouse on Saturday where I met a girl. Here." You pull out your phone and show it to the three of them. Jenny grabs it and looks at it.

"Elsie, yeah I know her from church, kinda," she says as she hands it back to you. "She's kind of weird."

"Weird how?" you ask.

"I dunno," Jenny says, "She's just so perky and giggly all the time. I don't trust people like that."

"Aren't you friends with some weirdo homeschooled girl, Ashton?" Carson asks.

"Oh get fucked. She's fine," Jenny retorts.

"Look, either way good for you man," James says. "But, uh, you're actually sure you're going out right? Not like—"

"No, definitely not like that," you interrupt, because you don't want him to bring her up. "She told me we were so that's pretty unambiguous."

Lunch continues from there and you go through your next two periods without anything particularly notable happening. In seventh, your study hall, you see Anita Nuevo who was one of the names that Marc gave you. For a moment you consider throwing the plan out and going over and trying to get her instead. But Anita is the captain of the girls' soccer team and her aura is intimidating so you decide against it. Besides, there's people around and you have no idea how you'd get her off alone since you've never talked to her.

But it does get you looking around at who else is there. You admit that after yesterday, you're curious about some of the other girls you see. What would their bodies feel like? What would you find inside their heads? Gillian Kiefer, for instance, is wildly appealing to you and you're curious about what she sees in a guy like Braydon Delp, her weird and creepy goth boyfriend. Or Sydney... something—or—other, who you only know as a new girl but who's beautiful and seems to be gaining popularity. And there's Maria Vasquez, a gorgeous cheerleader and one of Chelsea's acolytes; feelings of lust well up within you when you think of putting on a mask of her.

But fantasies like that remain in the realm of fantasy. Besides, in reality you've got a cute new girlfriend and you send that cute new girlfriend a text asking if you're still on. It takes a while but you get a confirmation and asks if you'd be willing to swing by Eastman to pick her up there. You tell her you've got no problem with that which ends things for now. It's then a lot of messing around on your phone until the bell rings.

"Hey Stephanie," you say as you approach a short-haired girl.

She looks up from her phone, her eyes narrowing when she sees you. "What do you want Prescott?" she asks gruffly.

You shrink back a bit because Stephanie Wyatt intimidates you. You knew her in elementary school and to be frank, she bullied you, seeming to think you weren't worth the time or effort to treat with much respect. And seeing her here now, older and up close, she still does. But you try to clamp down on those feelings because, again, you've got a job to do.

"You know Marc Garner?"

In a guarded manner she seems to perk up. "Yeah, sure. Why?" she responds.

"He told me to tell you that he wants to talk with you after school," you answer her. "He said to meet him at the portables."

"About what?"

"I don't know," you admit. "That's just what he said."

"Bullshit, Prescott," Stephanie growls, "The fuck would he ask you to deliver messages for."

"I don't know," you repeat a little desperately. "We, uh, hung out a bit this weekend. After meeting at the Warehouse. He grabbed me before fourth and said he wanted to talk to you out at the portables. I don't know any more than that but I'm telling the truth."

She's silent or a moment but seems to relent. "Fine, whatever, but if he's not there then I'm kicking your ass next time I see you," she says.

"Yeah, um, f-fair," you mutter before you take your seat.

You send a text to Marc telling him that Stephanie agreed to meet him. You then send a few texts back and forth confirming what you're going to do. Once the bell rings to let class out, You watch as Stephanie gets up and, at a distance, begin following her as she heads in the direction of the portables. When you're through the western exit between B and C wings, you shift your backpack and reach into the bag. It takes a moment and some checking but you're able to pull out the blank and by the time you do, she's at the portables as you can see Marc in the distance waving her over.

You hurry to catch up as they disappear between a couple of them. But you hear voices and peeking around one, you spot Stephanie with her back turned to you. You grip the mask, come up behind her and slip it over her face with Marc catching her as she goes limp and placing her on the ground.

"Fuck, man. Hannah's gonna flip," Marc says with an almost boyish excitement, like an impatient kid on Christmas Eve. "Hey, so what are you doing after this? You going to meet up with the guys?"

"Nah," you say with a shake of the head. "I'm getting together with Elsie."

"Gotcha," he says. "Although if you're up for it, you want to double up? The two of you, Hannah and me? Our treat for helping us out with this."

You have the following choices:

1. Double up with them

*Noteb*
2. You'll pass
