This choice: Convince her to let you grab one of Hannah's allies • Go Back... You go over your options, weighing the pros and cons, over and over before deciding that the best course of action is to try for one of Hannah's allies. Getting Anita might mean unquestioned control over the anti-Hannah group but that won't give you unquestioned control over the soccer team and if Anita and Stephanie haven't turned their attention to Chelsea, well, there's probably nothing to worry about from them.
But Hannah? She's a wild card. She's the hot new thing and is likely ambitious. She'll be riding high if she's able to take control of the soccer team and that could mean very bad things for Chelsea. While one of her friends won't be Hannah herself they'd be a good sentry and if Hannah starts looking like she might be a problem then it shouldn't be hard to make the leap from Hannah's friend to Hannah herself. That would mean both sides of the equation are under control as well and can be used to help Chelsea as she makes her play at consolidating power.
It's not that you necessarily care about the cheerleading squad though before you'd gotten mixed up with Chelsea you probably would've sided against her since people you're on friendly terms with -- Yumi Saito and Jenny Ashton -- are against her.
But now? You like the attention that Chelsea has been showing you. She's likely just toying with you, pushing all of your buttons but it's certainly working because she's making you feel special. You'd certainly like to keep it going so you hope that doing something like this for her will play into that.
So that's what you'll do then. Or try to do anyway because for as much as you think it's a great idea you're worried that Chelsea might not go for it even if you're helping her out. For as relatively nice as Chelsea has been to you she's still been bossy and while she hasn't been forcing you to do anything she's certainly made her expectations clear. If you keep proposing all of these jumps to different people will she reach the end of her patience? What will happen if she does?
But those are things to worry about down the road. Right now your concern is on, and should be on, getting Stephanie. The problem is that even if they're on the same team Samantha and Stephanie aren't the closest of friends and since she's started pulling away from the team and towards Catherine's group Samantha hasn't really talked to or hung out with Stephanie. So you'll need to come up with some kind of plausible situation that will get the two of you alone.
It's a lot of thinking, thinking that lasts while you hang out with Monica (the other girls have studies to focus on which leads to a thought that's quickly become another source of worry for Samantha) and through most of the night. By morning though you think you've hit upon an idea that, while not foolproof, should hopefully work out pretty well for you. Of course that revolves around Stephanie being observant and in Samantha, correctly or not, has never quite seen that as a quality that the unofficial captain has possessed.
So you while the day away. Lunch is spent partly in the fuck room as Chelsea -- back to herself -- demands reassurance that you'll have a Garner for her today. You show her the mask and say you'll get it but, perhaps not entirely confident, she says she'll make sure it happens and to meet at her house after school so you can work things out. Once more you reassure her and after a bit of back and forth you reach a compromise saying that you'll meet her in the locker room to make the change.
By sixth, however, it's time to put theory into action.

"You understand, right? You talk to nobody about this. If anyone asks," you pause to give it some thought, "just say that it's a personal matter. That you just needed to vent a bit or something. That doesn't mean you have to change how you act at school or practice or anything and actually I just want you to act normal. You got it?"
Samantha nods. Thankfully she's the type of person who keeps a lot of things to herself anyway with only her closest friends really penetrating the walls erected around her own insecurities. But all the same it's a good thing to reiterate it and with that done you send her back out to practice.
You're left, then, to dress in Stephanie's own practice clothes and you savor every moment of it. Though Samantha is also in excellent shape she possesses the lithe build of a runner while Stephanie possesses the muscled firmness of someone who's grown up playing a lot of soccer and a lot of basketball. Arms that, though lacking in any sculpture, feel powerful. Thighs and calves that are thick and solid.
Unlike Samantha, Stephanie's chest does not disappoint. Her breasts are a good size and when you put your bra on you make no efforts to stop yourself from grabbing some nice handfuls.
But Stephanie's needed back in the gym so you can't take the time out to further appreciate yourself. Getting into character and running the rest of practice the way Stephanie would is almost an immediate thing. You do your best while running it to avoid singling out Samantha though you do push a little bit of extra praise her way when she hits a particularly good shot or gets a good steal on defense. After all, it's about the only thing Stephanie would think to do for someone like her.
Thankfully she's not as unobservant as Samantha had suspected so your plan went off without a hitch. It was simple really, merely you allowed some of the anxiety to surface a bit more than normal and a bit more than what the real girl would typically allow. It had eventually caught Stephanie's attention and you asked to speak to her privately. You didn't mention the exact reasons why but you'd given her a story about feeling dissatisfied and that the thought of quitting the team had creeped into your mind.
Stephanie of course did what she could to talk you into staying and while she talked you'd dug in Samantha's locker and grabbed the first of the blank masks. Everything was gravy from that point.
Once practice has wound down and you've changed back into Stephanie's normal clothes you're back on your phone as you try and decide which Garner to try and bring out. Obviously you can't have both, otherwise you'll just be exposed and ruin everything. You yourself don't have a preference since you're not aware of any of the real differences between them. But Stephanie, as one of their closest friends, is and with her brain you think you've got a pretty good idea of who's more likely to go with it.

"Ugh, I thought maybe when I was getting better with Kendra it'd be the same with one of them but it's like... like I'm back at square one!"
Eva Garner pouts in a manner that to Stephanie's mind is incredibly disconcerting. To your own it looks like Eva doing a spot on Chelsea impression. "You don't have anything?" you ask her.
Eva can only shake her head. "This is so frustrating!" she cries. "How am I supposed to be her if I don't have her brain? How come you don't have the same problem?"
"I couldn't tell you," you shrug. "Maybe you're so confident in yourself that you have a hard time thinking of yourself as someone else?"
"That's..." she begins but stops herself. "It makes as much sense as any-fucking-thing else," she grumbles in frustration.
"Well you were getting better with Kendra after, what, three or four hours? Just stay away from Jessica and..." that gives you pause as you suddenly feel your heart begin to race. "Well, just stay away from her for as long as possible."
Eva can do nothing but grumble some more but you can tell that means she agrees with you. "Well, I can't just, like, disappear. Jessica and Mark are going to want to know where I am since, like, I think all three of them ride together or something," she states.
Once more you feel your heart race but you brush it off. "Well, just text Jessica, her number's in Eva's phone right?" you ask. "Anyway, just text her and tell her you're going to be at my place for a bit."
"But what if she decides to come over?" asks a grim Eva.
"It's not like they're stuck up each others' asses all the time," you retort.
Eva agrees, the text is sent and soon enough the two of you (and Stephanie's younger brother Craig) are on your way back to Stephanie's. And why Eva? Well for you it was a coin toss. Stephanie's own instincts told you that Eva is the slightly less uptight of the two so you took the chance. Lucky for you it paid off.
What plans Chelsea has from behind Eva's face your not sure and when you'd asked her while waiting for Craig she'd simply said she'd tell you once she had a better handle on things. And though her tone is one of frustration for obvious reasons, her body language betrays a giddiness. She's excited and in a far better mood than she's letting on.
Hopefully that means proposing the further jump to one of Hannah's friends will go well. But it might not. Maybe it's better to just do it and tell her after the fact; present it as a fait accompli and hope there's not much she can do once the deed is done. And you still can't suppress that worried feeling that no matter what you risk upsetting her. Stephanie's certainly not a bad place to be and you'd still be close to Chelsea so why risk anything? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
