This choice: His heat vision kicks in • Go Back...Chapter #6His heat vision kicks in by: scriptboy Kody had taken the comics page from the daily newspaper with him to his room, so he could read it before going to bed. As he sat on the edge of his bed, reading the comics, his attention was suddenly drawn to the sights and sounds coming from the Anderson’s house, across the street. Since he was facing the other way, not facing Edward’s house, he began to pick up everything that was happening in the house across the street.
This time, it came almost automatic. Without even wanting to listen in on what was going on, his super-hearing picked up on the conversations between Jack, MaryAnn, and Karen. Then, as he looked up and stared before him, the wall in front of him disappeared. And then, the outside wall of the Anderson’s house disappeared as well. Finally, his vision sharpened tremendously as he was able to see the action in the Anderson’s house up close, as if he were standing right there in their living room!
While Kody was holding the newspaper in his hands before him, he was hearing all the arguing and shouting that was going on at the home across the street. It was bothering him, to the point where it was upsetting him. He became angry, as he stared at the newspaper.
“Darn it! I want them to stop… I want them to STOP!” he shouted.
Suddenly, anger burned inside of him, as he heard the shouting across the street intensify.
“Why don’t they just STOP?”
Then, in a blink of an eye, red laser beams shot from Kody’s pupils and struck the newspaper, setting it on fire!
Kody gasped and froze, as he watched the paper, which he was holding in his hand, burn from the center. The flame started to spread, as it grew and slowly continued to spread towards the edges of the sheet. However, the smoke, which came from the flames, triggered the fire alarm in his bedroom to go off!
“PWEEEETT! PWEEEEEEETT!!!”
Then it dawned on Kody, that he had started a fire, which had set off the smoke alarm! He took a deep breath, and quickly extinguished the fire, leaving behind the charred and burned paper, that he was holding in his hands, along with pieces of burned paper, which had fallen on the floor.
Pam immediately ran into the bedroom to see what was going on. She froze when she saw Kody holding the burned newspaper in his hands.
“KODY! Kody Hart! How DARE you set a newspaper on fire in the house?” she shouted at him. “Haven’t I told you NEVER to play with matches? What were you THINKING?”
“I wasn’t playing with matches!!” he shouted back. “I’ve been trying to tell you all day, but you don’t believe me! I’m seeing things! I’m hearing things! Weird things have been happening to me all day long!” But you won’t believe me!”
“Then how did you set the newspaper on fire, Kody?” Pam asked him, standing right before the boy.
“With my EYES!” he shouted, almost to the point of tears. “I was upset because I keep on hearing the shouting from Karen’s house! I did it through my eyes!”
“WHAT?” she replied. “Kody! You better not be lying to me!”
“FINE!” he said, as he stood up. Then he held one piece of newspaper in his hand, which was not yet burned. He focused his eyes on the newspaper, and then two laser beams shot from his eyes, setting it on fire. He then held the burning piece of newspaper before his mother’s face. “How do you explain that? Is that a gift, too?”
Pam froze when she witnessed her son setting the newspaper on fire with his eyes. Her mouth dropped wide open, as if she couldn’t believe it had she not seen it with her very own eyes. Her son’s super-hearing, his super-eye-sight, his ability to see through objects, and now the ability to start fires using just his eyes were putting her in the situation where she had to tell him the truth about his birth.
“How do you explain all this?” Kody sobbed, with tears rolling down his eyes. “I’m turning in to a freak! I’m a FREAK! What’s happening to me? And why? Why are all these weird things happening to me? I see everything! I hear everything! I can see through walls! And now I can start fires with my eyes! What’s next?”
“Ooh Kody… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” Pam whispered, as she wrapped her arms around the crying boy. The boy was hopelessly confused. She knew it. It was time to answer his questions. Or try to…
